Pistorm 600 CPU question
« on: January 24, 2025, 02:41:42 AM »
Hello everyone,

So I'm just now starting to play with my new Pistorm 600. All setup and working as a crazy fast 68020.

- can the pistorm on an Amiga 600 still emulate say a 68040? If so, what's the easiest and quickest way to change which cpu is being emulated? I'd hoped to be able to pop the SD card out, edit a text file and off I go. But sadly not.

- is there any benefit whatsoever to doing that? I suppose it would be faster, but I doubt there's much outside of demos that would take advantage, especially without an AGA machine.

You don’t write whether you’re using Musashi or Emu68, but the latter is already like a 68040.
With Musashi you can specify which cpu to emulate in the config file, with Emu68 you can not and it remains 68040-ish.
Where do you see that it says 68020?

As he mentions 020, he must be using musashi.
So as you said, he would need to edit the config file. I believe there are 2, one called amiga and default.
I have always used the default one. So maybe he is editing the wrong one.

Emu68k, is much easier. No messing around with linux install etc etc.

Not to mention that if he thinks musashi is a "crazy fast 68020" he's gonna have to pick up his jaw from the floor when he sees how fast Emu68 is.

Agreed, Emu68 is really fast, very impressive performance on the Pistorms.

On a second thought…
With this being PiStorm600, I find it unlikely that Musashi is used, it’s known to not work well on PiStorm600.

So I wonder where the 68020 assumption comes from.

It works 100% fine with 3.2 rom.

I send out every Pi600 with a working musashi setup. Aslong as you flash long hold firmware, your all good.
Don't include Kickstart or Software. Just a basic HDF to show it works.

Ah, so this is a support thread for AmigaKit… then there’s no reason for me to be involved.

Cheers.
