Where did my RAM go after upgrading to OS 3.1.4?
« on: April 03, 2019, 08:33:49 PM »
Hi all, I am running a stock A1200 at the moment and have just
upgraded to 3.1.4.  Strange before upgrading and after startup my
Amiga would have 1.2 mgs available.  Now I am only left with 725k,
where did the ram go and is it possible to get it back?
Truly appreciate any help.

Assuming you have a Kickstart 3.1 ROM, the updated libraries are in RAM instead of running directly from ROM.

Hi and Thanks for chipping in but my Roms are 3.1.4 and not 3.1.
Now could you explain what you mean by the files are in my Ram disk?
Thanks,
Brad Hansen

@BradHansen1

On my stock A1200 with 3.1.4 kickstart I get about 1.4 MB free.

Is there something non standard in your A1200?
How many drives/partitions do you have? Which sizes? Do you use Fast File System or another one?

Gulliver, Thanks for hanging there. I don't think I am running anything unusual
on my Amiga. I do switch between SquirrelSCSI CDRom and a CF0:card and have
an IDE 4 gig drive but nothing else.  I run a 8 color Workbench at 672 x  271.
There is hardly anything in my Ram:ENV folder, so I am really at a total loss
as to where that ram is going...

Okay, so I was thinking that maybe some of my ram went bad.  I disconnected
my IDE drive and just loaded my system with 3.1.4 floppys and now I have 1.385 mgs free...
Go figure...

So then, now you know that there is something in your drive eating your ram.

Gulliver, Yes, but for the life of me I have no idea what it is.  Will be updating to BestWB
today when I come back from the dentist...

Could you use any of these apps to see what's using the memory?
