IDE4Zorro2 card tests.....
« on: February 25, 2018, 01:47:59 AM »
OK, so here's what I found out. In my A2K's, it will only work with a 3.1 ROM (does not work at all with a 2.x ROM). I pulled a couple cards out of my A2K in my sig (that has a 3.1 ROM) to make room to plug in the card and add a 4GB DOM w/power connector. Works fine on the primary port. Also tried a 4GB CF card in the dedicated slot. Works fine. So, for me the trick is a 3.1 ROM. :) I don't have an A3K or A4K to test with.

Tested with IDE to CF adapters.... Also works.

When testing drives on the 40pin primary connector of IDE4Zorro card, remove the master/slave jumper. When using an IDE to CF adapter with the IDE4Zorro, set it's jumper to master (with the IDE4Zorro jumper off - slave).

I'm going to order a few A500/A2K 3.1 ROMs from AmigaKit (a couple extras for my A500s). If I get the Cloanto ROMs and they don't work... :angryfire:

Since the IDE4Zorro card mimicks the A600 IDE controller, a 2.05 or 3.1  ROM is required. It will not work with KS 2.04 because it haven't got  scsi.sevice included. It might be possible to make a boot floppy that  loads scsi.device into memory by using LoadModule though.

IDE4Zorro will probably not work in an A4000 since it has the wrong scsi.device in KS ROM.

Ahhh, good to know PanterHZ! I have a few more 2.X ROMs but didn't bother looking for a 2.05 version - I was using a 2.01 ROM. I just went ahead and ordered a few 3.1 ROMs from AmigaKit. I ordered on Tues the 27th... the order still hasn't even been been fully allocated - everything was in stock and all could fit in a small bubble mailer. Even if it gets shipped on the 5th I probably still won't have the stuff for another 7 to 10 days. :( AmigaKit 's always bragging about how they can ship fast to the US but it might take up to 3 weeks for my stuff to arrive.

But when I get the 3.1 ROMs it opens up my ability to carry on with some really cool projects which I will share. :)

Why not order from Amiga On The Lake?  I ordered my last KS ROMS from them, and had them in 3 days, USPS Priority mail.  I just wish they carried more classic amiga stuff, so I wouldn't have to deal with Europe.

I didn't order from AOTL 'cause A: I also wanted another spare set of V40.68 A1200 ROMs & AOTL only sells the new V40.72 Hyperion ROMs. B: There was a post here a couple of weeks ago where someone had ordered something from AOTL & AmigaKit was bragging how they could get stuff to the east US just as fast (Ummm Huh). I REALLY wish AOTL would carry more classic hardware too. Also AmigaKit sells the ROMs (both A1200 & A500) $3 cheaper each - that right there saved me $12.00. Oh, and I get my loyalty discount from AmigaKit too.

Oh well, I'll just have to wait.... and I definitely don't want those V40.72 ROMs. I have 3 new sets of spare V40.68 ROMs now! :)

When I get the A500/A2K 3.1 ROMs I'm going to test a mix of IDE CF, DOM & on board CF scenarios. See if I can get all 3 to run at the same time just for fun on the A500 & the A2K.
