Anyone know a source for re-capped A1200 PAL boards?
« on: February 22, 2018, 03:20:28 AM »
I am considering selling my Lisa 2 to fund an A1200 PAL recapped with ACA 030 40MHz for scenedemos. Is there a source for such boards? I think I can get a newly molded case for the 1200, right? Still?

Thanks.

Negative, sir. Buy a board off ebay and send it to Acill for a recap.

Cases, not until they do another production run. Which won't be until after the A500 case run. My guess, 2019 or 2020. :(

I could your source (potentially ;) )

I have old mobo PAL + case + keyboard etc. It is one of my "projects"... but I have second of those sitting in the box... so, I could "share".

I also have Blizzard 030/50 sitting and "collecting" dust... All this COULD be for sale on Amibay if you want. Blizzard is 100% operational, one mobo is re-capped (Acil) but for some reason video out using RGB is not working on it - Acil was going to looks at it again, but I did not have time to send it to him... (I will have to double check, since I forgot which I'm currently using!). I think other is NOT recapped, but... I don't remember! To much LIFE to do lately and all this "projects"...

Regarding scene demos - if you want to enjoy AGA demos from the past ~20 years, an 030 wont do for 99% of them.
Been there, done that, get yourself an (overclocked) 060.

I can get you a pal board and recap it. Send me a PM. It will be a hell of a lot less than you can get it off eBay for too.

Oh boy Acill, now you opened up a whole can of worms.

While you're at it, can you get a Walker board and recap it?

nope not at all as a 060 card will fit in a 1200 no problem. I think you're referring to PPC card which is much bulkier and though some have fitted them awkwardly in their 1200 cases it's highly recommended they be towered

btw, don't get me going on selling classic Amiga hardware, drastically regretting it years later and paying alot more to get it back..arghhhhh ...ONLY AMIGA lol

I'm using a BPPC+BVision in an A1200.
Took some time to get it relatively cool and stable, but its been working great for 7 years now.
Back when I got it prices were not as crazy as today, but still expensive.

I had an Blizzard 060/50 603e & PPC at 240MHZ

It had to be towered in order for the PPC to remain stable running something intensive such as Quake on the PPC. The 060 was no problem. The PPC was stable in a PAWS case.

Now I have a Blizzard 1260 and that is absolutely fine in a desktop case.

I have read that an 040 can also be dicey in a desktop case.

Depends on what you want to pay. I dont make money off doing this by a lot. If I were to get one for say $100 I would recap it and charge $180. That would include all my time and the parts. for the $80 over what i paid for the board, then have you cover the shipping of your choice too.
