Quicknet 2000

I have got one of these cards.  It has a coaxial-type (like a tv aerial) connector.  is it possible to get this to work on a broadband modem with miami dx and/or genesis and an a4000.  Do broadband modems use the same coaxial connector or do i need and adaptor? if so what sort.  I have very little knowledge of broadband and amigas connected to it

You will need an Ethernet transceiver to convert the 10Base2 to 10BaseT.

The Quicknet 2000 has a BNC connector (not like a TV aerial connector when you're an RF engineer :-P) and an AUI connector (15 way D-range)

As mentioned you can use the BNC connector to connect to anything else which supports a 10 base 2 connection, or an AUI to 10 base T (RJ45) converter which are often easier and cheaper to get hold of than 10 base 2 to 10 base T adaptors.

You might need to modify the QN2000 card depending on the AUI adaptor, from memory some adaptors require ground on a certain pin which is open on the QN2000.
Also, I think it needed a fuse holder fitted or something trivial, as the adaptor requires power from the AUI port.

Miami(DX) supports the board through the z2-mb86950.mni device driver.

I also have a copy of quicknet.device somewhere if you prefer to do it that way, which would also allow support through AmiTCP/Genesis, in theory.

True, but good luck trying to find a PT4059 or equivalent.
I researched this a bit, then decided it was quicker and easier to trade half a dozen beers for a couple of AUI adaptors :-)

Oh, if it has AUI then that's much easier.  Check ebay, you should be able to find one for a couple of $$$.  If you can't, let me know and I can dig one up for you.  (BTW, where are you located?)

Can't remember which ones I used in the end.  The computer running them has two QN2000 boards which acts as an ethernet gateway/firewall.
I seem to recall messing about for a while using a combination of Miami MNI drivers and one of these ones.
One of the nice things about Amiga software, set it up once and forget about it.  Just seems to run forever.

Well it has a 15 pin d-type connector on it so I guess it has AUI.  Do you have an AUI to RJ45 adaptor?  I am in Australia.

I don't have any spare adaptors, but they're usually not that hard to find.
Visit a decent computer shop who deals in networking, or look on Ebay.  As mentioned, they're only a few $ second hand.

There are lots of different brands available, here's an example of what they look like:

Depending on the adaptor used, you may have to link the unused pin 6 of the AUI connector to ground (bridge between pins 6 and 14 on the bottom side of the QN2000).
You'll also need to fit a fuseholder to the empty pads on the QN2000.  A 500mA fuse should do the trick.

Switch S1 has to be in a certain position for the card to work.  Can't remember which position, but you've got 3 choices.

I am bringing this old post back up because i found its easy to convert these to rj45 twisted pair,no thanks to a 20+ year typo on amiga resource and big book of amiga.

Those sites say one of the parts to convert to rj45 is a pt4059 by pulse/vicor.
Looking at the pictures i wasn't so sure of the part number. This IS a typo.. the MB86961 datasheet for the ethernet chip this card uses specifies PT4069.

The PT4069 is still readily available,adding 6 resistors,2 caps and a rj45 jack makes twisted pair work on this board!

UPDATE2: for qn2000 v1.1 cards..If you want to use the AUi PORT WITH A AUI->TWISTED PAIR ADAPTER,IT IS POSSIBLE:
the aui port is missing some ground connections as anthony hoffman mentioned. only pins 1&4 are grounded,you need to jumper from pin 4 to pins
6,8,11,and 14...like this:

Make sure the fuse is in place on the quicknet board. 500ma will do.
This will get the transceiver working. 3 of 4 lights on the centrecom should be lit.
Centrecom 210ts will fit if you remove the casing,hidden screw on the bottom middle under the label.unscrew and remove the aui port standoffs for it to fit.
Use the MiamiDX mni driver called z2-mb86950.mni,not the sana 2 driver.
in 3000/4000Towers(and A2000) quicknet switch must be down. in desktop models it would be pointing away from the PSU.
Use the miamidx z2-mb86950.mni driver.
 Mech
