MWB Icon colors
« on: August 29, 2017, 11:09:13 PM »
Hi All,
Running ClassicWB which uses MWB icons. Installed MWB but only some of the icons are displaying the correct color scheme. Is there a secret to getting them all to show correctly?
Thanks in advance

My "trick" is to use PeterK's icon.library and convert all mwb icons to "colour icons" (OS3.5+ icon format) using either RAWBinfo (OS3.9's info replacement) or "en mass" using ProcessIcon :)

Set your palette correctly and lock it with a tool like FullPalette:

http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/FullPalette22

Note that you should be running in an 8+ color screenmode for MWB icons to look correct.

This guide is good: http://www.mfilos.com/2012/01/guide-making-workbench-prettier-using.html

Also, if you're not already using the Peter K. icon.library, you should be:

http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/IconLib_46.4

Edit: You may run into other issues because you're using "ClassicWB".  IMHO rubbish.  ;)

If you are running 3.9 go to Prefs:workbench

and there is a checkbox for "set magic wb colors" or something that will turn them into the mwb palette. if not maybe classic wb has a "fix colors" somewhere dunno

Hi,

Which options do you usually use when doing the conversion en masse with processicon?

The Peter K. icon.library will display all icon formats correctly (with a suitable pallette, obviously). You don't need to convert them to a lesser format unless, for example, you want to reduce the file size of the .info file so they open more quickly.

Ah, then I am possibly misunderstanding what the icon.library does.  I was assuming it would change the icon set to something better than the default WB 3.1 icon set.  If I want better looking icons for 3.1, where do I look?

Icon.library provides the routines the OS uses to draw the icons. If you just want different icon sets look on Aminet. Hundreds available - MagicWB, NewIcons, GlowIcons, etc., etc.
