I think OP wanted a frugal upgrade.  :)

Typical Amiga user.

Bite the bullet and buy at least an '030 accelerator. They allow for RAM, and a much faster computer. There really aren't any compatibility issues - only the cost. But, you'll love the extra speed.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

Might be worth checking out the Terrible Fire accelerator project, but wont be practical since you would have to build your own board or get someone else to do it for you even when its still in beta phase.

i thought getting an 030 board and ok, so only 2meg fast but with the ability bolt on one of Jens's bigram 112meg boards for a paultry £170 off of the wallet tearing rip-off merchant E-of.the.-bay site was a bargin?

have had a look on amibay and there is much more choice there. actually thinking about picking up an A2000 myself now...

people usually have time or money. if you have the time, sharpen your soldering skills and build something, and i have more respect than can be imagined for such folks. only yesterday i found a site for the fpga zorro graphics card with Picasso96 drivers! open source core and software! awesomeness!

but if you have no time, then you'll have to pony up the dough :D

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

If you don't have fast ram then getting some will improve the CPU speed.

A 14mhz 68010 will get you a few more percent (it won't run be able to run at 14mhz all the time though, so it's not double the speed).

http://aminet.net/package/docs/hard/14MhzA500.lha

Personally I'd either wait for Individual computers to make an ACA2000 (I originally asked him about doing it in the 1990's), try to pick up an old 020 accelerator or wait for a vampire.

Nothing for an Amiga 2000 is cheap.

Thanks, i may try 68010 since I have 8MB fast :)
I have found some cheap stuffs till now =)

I reckon something like TerribleFire will be rerouted for A2000 even if  current version doesn't fit. Maybe $75-90 US complete. Static Fast Ram.  Burst mode. MMU maybe. FPU is pretty weak in comparison to 68040 or 060.  It would be worth swapping some of your 16 bit fast RAM for the  TerribleFire equivalent. In theory TF can work out much cheaper if you  can get the chips from discarded or recycled old IT equipment.

Oldest A2000s don't have "proper" CPU expansion slots anyway, you pretty much  have to take the 68000 out and do it that way. Also sometimes slot is  zorched but processor socket OK.
