My Amiga 4000 progress/pics
« on: September 03, 2016, 05:54:48 AM »
While I've been a huge Amithlon fan I acquired an A4000 recently.....still regretting the selling of mine many, many years ago.

I initially began with trying to match my former setup (A4000, WarpEngine4040, Emplant Mac emulator, Video Toaster 4000, GVP EGS Spectrum 28/24 RTG) while still remembering the stuff I always wanted to get but never did.

After getting this A4000 040/25 (2/16 MB) I started looking at the "for sale" posts and eBay for some of the stuff I owned previously.  Luckily I had been talking with a few other Amiga owners who all had a lot of what I was looking for and were willing to help out vs. the high prices of eBay, etc...

So a few weeks after getting the A4000 I had a Video Toaster 4000, and this time, a Video Flyer (and a few drives for it).  Those have been waiting to be installed...I still need to get the board recapped and some "upgrades" done (Buster 11, PIO2 Mode, etc..).  These friends also helped me acquire an X-Surf 100 with RapidRoad USB, a WarpEngine4040 with 128 MB, a ROMY and 68040 to 68060 adapter and in short order, a Picasso II RTG card.  Yes, this is more than can go in an A4000 since the Toaster covers a slot, but I want RTG to do some comparisons between an A4000 and my Amithlon system.

Anyway....I got one of the last pieces I needed that mounts in the drive bays so I snapped some pics and figured I'd share.

I have a 4-Way IDE adapter on the IDE port and for Master(0) I have an IDE CF Card reader as the boot drive.  On Slave(1) I have a SSD SATA drive with a SATA to IDE adapter.  On the second channel I have a Slim DVD-RW drive.  The last piece was a multi-device USB card reader to attach to the internal connector on the RapidRoad USB.  Using a 5.25" bay with 3.5" slot I have the Slim DVD-RW mounted as well as the boot IDE CF card reader mounted in the typical CD-ROM Amiga 5.25" slot, then I have the 3.5" USB 2.0 multi-card panel with the floppy taking up the bottom slot.  The SSD drive is still looking for a place to be mounted, it's thin enough that I may just tape/velcro/something on top of the Slim DVD-RW drive.

Here's my workbench screen, it's 1024 x 768 (HighGFX monitor/screenmode and Indivision AGA DVI output).

SystemOS is my boot drive (IDE CF Card reader)
Amithlon is a CD in the Slim DVD-RW drive
System is a CF card I configured in WinUAE with RDB plugged in the USB reader
PICS is a USB stick plugged in the USB reader
FILES is a Micro-SD card plugged in the USB reader
Nas1 is an SMB mount of one of my NAS shares

The other volumes are partitions on the SSD drive.

Here's how they look in the drive tray, the front bezel is still off as I need to retro-bright it and the top is off as I still need to work out cable management as it's pretty crowded..

I'm liking how it is turning out.

When you want a recap and that buster upgrade let me know. I can also solder in the required GALS in the new sockets for your ROMY if you havent done it. I would be glad to do it all for you. My prices are very fair.

As for slots for all your gear, you can get a tower and a bussboard for it. This is a great value and is in stock at Elbox: http://elbox.com/products/mirage_4000_pro.html

Interesting, those tower kits always show "sold out" when I look.

Definitely plan to have you recap and do the upgrades to the board.
