Oooh, store in Varberg! If my wife wouldn't have killed me on the spot for buying new stuff a month before moving, I'd be on the Øresund train right now to go get one. :D
Beating the dead horse since 2002.

Yeah I'm really happy about it! Nice one you got there, aslo new I see, may I ask what you payed for it? Did you get a PSU or without?

I paid 250 € (about 280 $ USD)... it was in a warehouse of an old store in Napoli (Italy).
I know it's so expensive, but it's really new, just unsold and forgotten.

Would be nice to know some stories where the new ones where found :)

I owned a CD32 since day one, given to me by my parents for my 18's birthday... unfortunately it blew up some years ago, so I decided to buy a new one for my cdxl project "AmigaAnimeCD".

There does seem to be two revisions of the CD32, one has the Commodore text painted white and a raised ridge area at the back of the CD-ROM lid, the other lacks this.

I always thought the ones with the white text and ridge were the later NTSC models for Canada?

This could back that theory up: http://www.amazon.com/Amiga-CD32-~-NTSC-Version/dp/B003NNR3UG

I have a NTSC CD32 with the raised ridge and white Commodore text. I wonder if som99's CD32 is an NTSC model. If his monitor/TV displays NTSC modes correctly, then he may not notice a problem until he finds a PAL only game. This would still only be a minor inconvenience as PAL can be selected in the boot menu before loading a game.

I still have my old CD32 that I got in the 90's. After picking it up, I spent the whole day home from school - a sudden and serious case of the sniffles - playing Oscar, Diggers, and Alien Breed: Tower Assault. Good times!

Haha great story, I to have stayed home from school a few times when I got new hardware! Sadly the shops around where I lived back then did not have any CD32's so all I could do was read about it in magazines :/

Haha I know the feeling, been there also ;) I fortunately live quite resonable close to Varberg (122km) :D

250£ Ain't to bad to be honest, I would probably have payed that also, boxed ones usually go for more where I live and ours where spanking brand new :D

Nice birthday present there! To bad about your original CD32, do you still have it? Any idéa what went wrong with it? I would gladly help as much as I can :)

This I did not even notice to be honest, ain't the NTSC versions a lot more rare?

If it is a NTSC unit that might explain the lack of PSU, since we use 220-240V/50Hz mains here, could be someone tried them and they blew up or something, no idea ^^

Nearly every  single TV set here in Sweden has support for NTSC even if we live in a PAL region so the thought didn't cross my mind that it could be NTSC.

I'm away working until Friday but I will check if my CD32 is a PAL or NTSC and report back when I get home :)

I was interested in buying one from them a while ago, but i suspected it was NTSC versions they sold as the PSU was missing. I tried to ask them, but they said that there isn't any difference between PAL and NTSC models, which i doubt.

Seems like you can hardware mod them to output PAL as standard though.

Here's an EAB thread about NTSC CD32 http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=39646&page=2

Thanks for the link.

NTSC or PAL dosn't really matter to me, since our TV's support both PAL and NTSC that's no issue, the games that needs the CD32 in PAL mode requires me to boot up in PAL or just do the little mod internally, lift pin 41 on Alice and put a switch there so that's no problem.

So really no issues for me with a NTSC machine, do you know about any other issues the NTSC vs PAL CD32 has since you do not want to buy the NTSC version?

Strange tho that the sellers did not mention it's NTSC systems, also funny enough they have raised the price 12USD after every sold unit, 12USD after I bought one and today just a while ago someone bought another one (a while after i posted they had 4x) and then they bumped the price another 12USD xD So mine was 22USD cheaper no biggie but still a bit funny ^^

According to the Amazon link above, yeah!

The NTSC version was a very late release, only in Canada, and only for one week before Commodore stopped distribution.

Could explain how you found a NOS machine if they were only on sale for 7 days.

Yeah it sure explains it, been sitting in a warehouse forever waiting for me ;)

No idea how many NTSC contra PAL units there are but I don't mind having a NTSC unit I am just happy I got a CD32 so that was just a surprise and since I still can run PAL games on it. Tho I think I should re-cap it when I got the time :)

Would somebody in Sweden order one for me from retrospelbutiken and then ship it to me? Of course with all costs covered!

And what would exactly be the deal with the NTSC unit? WHen I switch to PAL in the boot menu is that a permanent switch? Or do I have to do that everytime I run a game? Will this boot PAL selection switch the device fully to PAL or is there still a difference with a real PAL device?
