Have you used SATA to IDE adapter in IDE Amigas?
They are pure crap in PC, very slow and unreliable, but I wonder if they are fast enough for Amiga builtin IDE.
I'd like to try and connect a 2Tb drive one day :-)
Better sorry than worry.

The cheap and nasty ones as I've found out are not worth buying. However there are some main stream brands at the $40-$50 mark that are full speed and the only bottle neck is the SATA.

I have tried a couple with my A1200 and buffered IDE controller but it's temperamental. Had one of Ebay from a China seller and it killed my FastATA, the power would short out on the HDD. I've now learned to use insulation (electrical) tape on the back.

Have a new FastATA on the way which comes with a SATA to IDE so will see how that goes.

Also have a couple of IDE to SATA in my Pegasos II and they work great, no noticeable slow down just the usual you would expect from an IDE drive.

These are the ones I use in the Peg board, they plug straight into the motherboard.

This is the one I used with the A1200 that I wouldn't recommend.

I've tested those small ones that connect directly to a 2.5" HD. I've tested a more expensive (about 15€ on eBay) german brand and a super cheap 2€ chinese one. Both had same results, being that the HD is not detected on cold boot. On warm boot it is most times, to my surprise (this was with 3.1 Roms). I say most times because sometimes it isn't and I don't know if it's a problem with my A1200 or the adapter or the adatper killing the IDE controler, or the fact that the A1200 IDE port is not buffered.
I did test in my A4000, which AFAIK has a buffered interface.

I only tested the smaller 44pin to sata ones because their super practically by piggy backing on the backside of the HD.

If someone finds a model that works on cold boot with just the A1200 IDE port let us know..

i have used some cheap 40pin ide to sata converters and they seem to work fine, i do prefer plain ide stuff on ide though since its best to avoid any conversion when you can. i think this is the adapter i was using:

I have used a 1TB drive with it.. can you say lots of partitions lol.
