256 Mb EDO module in Blizzard turboboard, would it work ???
« on: February 20, 2004, 05:33:32 PM »
I know that 128 Mb works in a Blizzard, no matter if it´s a 1230 or a PPC one. But can it also accept the 256 Mb ???

It would probably see it as 128MB only. Don't quote me on this one though.

Effy was not clear enough.
Effy did you mean:

Will it accept a total of 256MB ram?

or

Will it accept a 256MB Simm?

I already know that a Blizzard can accept two 128 Mb modules to have a total of 256 Mb, but I wanted to know if it can also accept one single 256 Mb module !!

OK, now we know what you are trying to say. :-)

As stated in my first reply, a 256MB SIMM would probably be detected as 128MB only, by the Blizzard accelerator(s), or not work at all.

I`ve got 256mb on my BPPC board. Works fine, even if it is a very tight fit! I do seem to remember that the Blizzard 1230 could take 256, but not sure it could take 256mb simms. Could it have another slot fitted?

Maybe not entirely accurate to the original question, but....

I had a couple of 16 & 32mb simms laying around doing nothing, and i placed them in the 4000 which was equipped with 8 mb of 4x2mb simms....

The 4000's sees every simm as 4 mb, thus giving a 16mb of ram.

I think the Blizzard board will detect it like 128mb, if that's the maximum per slot. If not, maybe it sees it as true 256 mb.

It won;t blow if it doesn't work is my experience with hardware.

According to the Big Book, you can fit only 128Mb in the Blizzard's native slot. However, another 128Mb can be added if the board has a SCSI-II adapter.

There is another issue you have to watch out. The Billzard cards and Cyberstorm cards only accept 5.0V Simms and not 3.3V.

@JaXanim

Thought so. I`ve got a spare 1230. My first accelerator.
