BetterWB 4.0 27-February-2015

This is a new version of BetterWB workbench pack, that aims to be an enhancement, an updated extension to AmigaOS 3.1, without all those hardware requirements typically associated with these kind of packs. It is indeed a better 3.1 than 3.1 itself!

BetterWB works on any Amiga. It installs on top of a clean AmigaOS 3.1 installation. It is distributed as a set of floppy images and occupies about 10MB of harddrive space.

Changes since last version:

-Rebooter has a fast performing bootable ram option
-LockDevice is a command which between other things, changes the read and write status of a drive
-Icon.library has been updated to 46.4.408
-Fat95 has been updated to 3.18
-Dir now generates a wider and more clear display mode
-ConBuffer gives scrollbars to any cli (configured by default for Zshell)
-A new commodity, PM, a cpu/process meter
-Datatypes.library 45.4 corrects several bugs and is a little bit faster than its previous counterpart
-DOSDrivers for Jaz and Zip drives are included. If you still have one of those magnetic dinosaurs ;)
-Reduced the memory footprint just another extra bit.
-A few more minor fixes and tweaks.

You can download BetterWB from its homepage at:

Is it possible to update an existing BetterWB, or do you need to do a clean install every time?

BetterWB, right along side of offerings like Amikit - get nowhere near the amount of appreciation as they should.  A true diamond in the Amiga scene.

Kudos for the new version!

+1.   I try to make a point of crowing about it's virtues to anyone who will listen.

Thanks again, Gulliver!

Great work Gulliver! I have been wanting to try this out for a long time. Just one question... is BetterWB Toaster 2000 friendly? I have had all the parts for my A2000 Toaster build for a long time and have finally got my Blizzard 2040 successfully upgraded to a Blizzard 2060 that I got here from Jeff! I have lots of other parts coming from AmigaKit for this A2000 build too... RapidRoad, XSurf 100, Buddha IDE, TrueIDE, couple 9GB drives for the Flyer, etc... here's some pron of the Blizz!

@All

Thanks for the comments.

@gizmo350

It should work without issues on a Toaster system.

BTW, nice setup!

I'm curious if any one has had an issue with installing BetterWB before OS3.5 or 3.9?  I haven't tried this yet.  I don't think the BoingBags are nearly as comprehensive or up to date.  Correct me if I'm wrong.  :)

For that matter, has anyone found any incompatibilities of BetterWB with other packages like AIAB, Amikit, AmigaSYS, ClassicWB?

I imagine the installation procedure would be OS3.1, then BetterWB, then the package or next OS of your choice.

@ Tenacious

sorry I meant I want to keep my original wedge case 1200 with 3.1 as my 1200T has OS3.9 already.

I wasn't trying to suggest anything to you.  :)  Your post simply made me ponder the question.  I may try it out at a latter date.
