telnetd.device ?'s again

I am back with some more telnetd.device questions. I am trying to get my old Amiga BBS back up. I have an Amiga 3000 with WB2.1 running on an xsurf. I have Miami and or AMITCP installed and can run one or the other. The Amiga is on the internet and will FTP or Telnet just fine.
I believe the Amiga is 100% on the internet.
I am told telnetd.device is a simple install and you would then tell your BBS to use telnetd.device instead of the serial.device to get a BBS node on the internet instead of thru a modem.
I am thinking my problem is in the BBS.
My bbs the old Star-Net/Paragon/MEBBS doesnt seem to be working with the telnetd.device.
My BBS wants some information that I think telnetd.device is not giving it and it pukes. What does telnetd.device send the bbs node upon connect? In the old days the modem sent connect_9600 or what ever the baud rate was to the node and then the node knew what speed and so forth. My BBS needs a modem config file to run and I need to tell it how to talk to telnetd.device. This is the info I am looking for. I dont see how my bbs will work without knowing some info telnetd.device sends. It has to send something? To trick the bbs into "answering the phone" even though its a telnet connection via ethernet. I dont see how any bbs software would even work unless telnetd.device emulated a specific modem and would take action upon certain AT commands from the old days?! An INIT string to wait for a call? Drop DTR to hang up? RING? ANSWER? CONNECT SPEED?
Anyone have any ideas on this?

Why not just get a copy of FAME. I use a few BBS site still that run on it and its fantastic. From what I know of it, all the TelNET stuff is built into it. Its got ative doors, chat, and people still make updates and other thinga for it.
