eBay - "Pure Unobtanium" A1000 mystery peripheral
« on: December 20, 2014, 07:06:25 PM »
Hello everyone,

I'm not sure how many people have seen this guy's listing:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/291331268872

I admit I am curious about the identity of the manufacturer myself.  I recently found a disk labeled "Pal Jr. Kickstart v1.3 Sept. 3/89" in my trove.  I sent the seller a message offering to send the kickstart disk to try it out and see whether that wakes up the hard drive controller - but no response.  I have no need for the disk myself.

Do you guys think it's some version of the Pal Jr?

It's a Palomar Peripherals PPI 1000.  The seller should know that already as all their pictures were taken from the Big Book of Amiga Hardware, http://www.bigbookofamigahardware.com/bboah/product.aspx?id=2001

He's hoping for an impulse sale then. What a lousy to55er...

I'm confused... are the pictures therefore not of the actual item we're buying?

Nope, the photos are stolen from the Big Book of Amiga Hardware.

So... what we're bidding on must not match the pictures... because to find those pics, he must have specifically searched for the item... and to specifically search for the item means he knows what it is... but as the listing suggests he isn't sure, his item must look different to the item pictured...

It's not rocket science...but it could be science in that your theories are just that...theories, not fact ;)

Is it possible...just maybe a little possible...that at the time of the listing he wasn't sure what he had? And is it possible...just maybe a little possible...that he still isn't 100% sure?

If you look at the date of the Big Book entry, it is the very latest addition. Is it possible he actually submitted those pictures to the Big Book after his eBay listing? Is it possible that someone stole his pictures and submitted it themselves?

His motivation might not be spawned from the devil FFS.

"Page contributors: 1bad5oh"

"Seller Information: 1bad5oh"

Might be onto something! :p

Those pictures might be of the actual item he's selling and he may have contributed those photos to the Big Book of Amiga Hardware.  Either way, he's lying when he says,

Not if you take the likely timeline into consideration. eBay listing first. BBOAH entry second. eBay listing auto-relisted (and he hasn't edited it). No lies there.

There were two contributors to the BBOAH page.
Was there only one photo before his contributions? Someone will remember.

I vote that, like many eBay sellers, he is just "asleep at the wheel."

A wheel he didn't invent, by the way.
