Cyberstrom Mk II and A3000

Hello everyone,
    I purchased a used MK II for use in my A3000. The seller used it in an A4000 and said it worked fine. When I put the board in, the computer will not recognize the Hard Drive.  I do see all of the memory on the MK II so I assume it is working.  My A3000 has all of the latest chips (Western Digital Rev8, Ramsey 7, DMAC 4) and I have heard about the problem with some versions of the MKII card needing a hardware update yet the serial number of my card is later than the block stated in that posting.  I have not played with any jumpers as the Warp Engine 040 I have hasn't needed me to play with those and it has worked fine.

Does anyone have any ideas?

 THe problem you are experiencing is the "INT2" problem with all 3000D motherboards. There is a line missing from the CPU slot that allows CPU cards such as the MK2 to use the SCSI built on the card. You need to modify your motherboard:

Yes, Magnetic is right you need the int hack for the mother board.  The reason your warp engine worked is because you had that red wire that you clipped to the chip, created the int hack for you.

Both are real nice cards (I have both of them in my 3k's), the hard drive throughput is actually a bit slow than the warp engine in my systems.  Although the 060 is faster.  I actually prefer the warp engine for it's design.  You didn't have to hack your case if you wanted SCSI 2.  With the Cyberstorm, you have to hack your case for the SCSI module.

If your looking for Amiga 3k equipment, I will be ebaying my systems shortly.  I just put up my delfina card yesterday.  I have 3 3000's, 1 tower and 2 desktops.  1 tower and desktop are fully loaded. (nic cards, 040, 060, Retina z3, cybervision 64, etc...).  If you would like I could notify you when they are put up on ebay.

Are you using the A3000's SCSI interface or do you have the SCSI module for the MKII ?   I have a A3000 with the MKII '060 and don't recall having had to make any modification to the motherboard.  To the best of my knowledge, that modification is only necessary if you have the SCSI module installed on the MKII.

As an A3000 user with a MK III and the CSPPC I can tell you the card shoud work fine as long as your not attempting to use the SCSI module with it. As above if you want the SCSI to work you must do the int 2 hack. Its simple and takes longer to pull out the motherboard then it does to solder in the jumper wire.

Gentlemen,
  Thank you for your answers.  Let me clear a few things up.  I'm trying to use the A3000s native SCSI controller.  I don't have SCSI on the Accel Card.  I have recently had the int2 mod done as well as a new battery installed.  this does not seem to ahve made any difference.  The computer still refuses to recognize the Hard Drive.  Any other thoughts?

I'm assuming that this drive came from the warp engine scsi II controller?  I would first confirm that your 3.1 roms see the drive (reboot, hold down both mouse buttons and look to see if it is listed).  Boot from a 3.x floppy and should see it in scsi prefs, make sure your selecting scsi.device and not warpdrive.device in the icon information (if the boot floppy was used for your warp engine.)  

If this doesn't work, I would check termination.  Make sure both sides are terminated.

I had the same problem with my A3000+Cyberstorm mkII.
It would not recognise the new Seagate Barracuda drive I had.

Found I had to enable the synchronous, fast synchronous and SCSI 2 Queing modes on the SCSI controller.
Download A3000 SCSIPrefs MUI from Aminet to do this.  The settings are stored in a little bit of memory inside the RTC, so if the battery goes flat, the settings will be lost and you'll have to re set them.

Also I found the Barracuda drive was not recognised if I had the old 60Mb Quantum drive on the controller at the same time.

Don't forget to double check the termination is correct both at the motherboard and drive ends of the cable!

What happens if the INT2 line is not present, when using an accelerator with SCSI in A3000D? Does the machine refuse to work at all, or only SCSI controller gets disabled?

Usually the computer will still boot, but the SCSI controller will either have problems or fail to work at all.

This only applies to 3rd party SCSI controllers and CPU boards which require the INT_2 line.
Can't remember if the CS mkII's SCSI requires it or not.  I'm pretty sure the mkIII card does.
