I'd just wait for the FPGA turbo card. It will be much faster and more flexible, with many extra features.
As for the price, 100$ is a bit high for stock A500, I believe. Even with a monitor.
You should have gotten at least some kind of hdd interface, too.
Better sorry than worry.

Where can we get more information on this? I haven't heard of it until now.

If this is the device you are talking about, one bonus I see for the ACA500 is that it's external to the Amiga. Easier to use the CF cards. This device appears to be internal, although it does provide more functionality.

For me, a faster Amiga wasn't the benefit of the ACA500. I was just looking for a quick-and-easy way to transfer ADFs to floppies.

I think this may be a video of it in action along with some cute kids :)

If you're really dead set on writing floppies for your new Amiga on your PC, then the Catweazle is the ONLY option there is.
BTW - for what was included, you got a rather good deal (assuming everything works OK)
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

I'm going to stick with Amiga Explorer and write the floppies from the Amiga. Also, I found out that Null-modem to usb cables do work with the Amiga, so I bought one on newegg.

Thanks for all the replies. I cant wait to play Defender of the Crown on my new computer.

Last question (hopefully). I found a box with 10 High Density floppies (1.44 MB IBM formatted 2HD). Could I format them from the Amiga?

@Dr. Chef

You may have to cover the open tab on the high-density floppy with tape to make the computer think it is a double-density floppy.  Finding high-density floppy drives adapted for the Amiga is hard.

Thanks. I'll try the tape trick, if there are any issues.

I have another question (I'm chalk full of em'): How do you write adf images into floppies using only WB1.3?

List of roadblocks

  • My a500 has only 1MB of ram. I could put the adf image onto ramdisk, but what software should I run (if needed)?.
  • My a500 has no hard drive.
  • My a500 is running WB 1.3 so certain software wont run
  • I only have one floppy drive attached to the Amiga500. Essentially It's a bare-bones A500.
Edit: I did a Google search and found a possibly helpful thread.
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=15270

What about ADFSend? Could I just drag the ADF image onto ram: (AmigaExplorer), then write to floppy, or do I need special software to write to floppy?

Edit again: I found some videos that might be helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFGSMeb8t0w and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AwF9njTlmE

Never-mind. I found a video on youtube that answers all my questions. Thanks for the replies. I cant wait to play with my new Amiga.
