Commodore Gaming Wiki
« on: May 20, 2014, 06:31:29 PM »
Hi all.

I am in the process of starting a wiki all about gaming on Commodore machines. From 8-bit up to the Amiga range. I know there are wikis and resource sites already but this is a kind of personal/"I want to do it" project. It's something I have toyed with in the past but never really knew how or where to start. But after research I now have a good foundation to work off.

The reason I am posting this is because I am curious as to gaming on NG Amiga systems. I don't own a PPC Mac so I don't have Morph OS. I would love a OS4 system but kids are eating my budget, same reason as to why I can't afford a Mac to do Morph OS. And I am just starting my journey in to AROS. But at the same time I want to include them on the wiki.

So that is why I am asking for information from people who have experience with the systems about gaming on them. I am not looking for much information. Mainly ideal system specs vs minimum specs. Compatibility with with OS versions, if any incompatibility exists between older and newer OS versions and maybe reviews if you have any that you are happy for me to link back to.

I will be honest. I don't expect the wiki to get very far. But I have a itch to do it and I want to do it.

My thoughts on this are basically that isn't it roughly the same as playing games through *UAE?

Unless you're wanting to do something like C64/128, Amiga, Amiga-NG gaming sections.  Not sure what (beyond some open source ports) native Amiga-NG stuff there is.

I always thought it'd be cool to have an Amiga only game score blog.  Maybe make it a Commodore one or something.  I know of at least one gaming site that does a high score list for Arcade games.  They'll announce a game, then have a screenshot or something to show your high score on it, and they give you a week or something to play.

I understand that OS4 is able to play classic games. I was looking for games specifically tailored to OS4, MOS and Aros. But if that is something that I will struggle with, unless I somehow manage to get hold of hardware, then it will be something I would have to leave.

I am just inthe middle of setting up a new hosting package and domain. commodoregamingwiki.co.uk is in the middle of a propogation and will take some time to fully work. I have also moved from DokuWiki to Mediawiki. Simply because the latter offers some more powerful features.

I would also like to do highscores but that might be a later date thing as I want to get the site upto some dort of stanadrda before then.
