UK keyboard on german A1200
« on: June 15, 2014, 05:17:12 PM »
Hello Amiga-Fans,

I have a german Amiga 1200 with german keyboard.
My question: Is it possible to use a british keyboard on a german Amiga?
Or did i need a british mainboard? Thank you.

You should be able to use the keyboard with the Amiga 1200, but you will need to change the locale/keymap if the Amiga has one already set.
After many years in the Amiga community I have decided to leave the Amiga community permanently. If you have a question about SGI or Sun computers please PM me and I will return your contact as soon as I can.

Confirmed, you can indeed use a UK English keyboard on any A1200.

Hi AmigaKit :)

Is it really no problem to change UK keyboard <-> DE keyboard?
Just a question: What, if i have a british A1200 and use a german keyboard -
can I use german keys like ö, ä, ü, etc. after changing UK -> DE keyboard in
WordWorth, FinalWriter, etc.?

The keyboard interface is identical electronically on all A1200 motherboards so it will work with any A1200 keyboard whatever the language.

Yes they use same keyboard interface. Actual keys are defined by keymap and you can use umlauts if you switch to DE keymap. You can change keymap from locale settings (SYS:Prefs/Locale).

You could also use UK keymap with DE keyboard. Just some keys are in different places.
