220-240V Amiga 1000 PSU in US 110V Amiga 1000
« on: February 03, 2014, 11:50:42 AM »
Would there be any issues in swapping the 110V PSU in a US Amiga 1000 with a PAL 220/240V Euro Amiga 1000 PSU?

I'm hoping it'll be fine and avoid having me use a step-down transformer with a US A1000.

Kind regards,
Hisham

The transformer won't know PAL from NTSC, just AC voltages in, and AC voltages out.  The number of windings on the "coil" determines the voltage drop; and then for DC, a fast "switch" (eliminates the need for large capacitors) combined with capacitors, rectifiers, and resistors then put out the needed DC volts at a steady rate.

Yeah the A1000 will still be NTSC, which is annoying as it can't be switched to 50hz. I don't know if replacing the Agnus with a PAL thin agnus will allow you to run PAL software, there was a board that allowed you to run a fat agnus in the A1000 too.

I'd probably sell the NTSC A1000 and look around for a PAL A1000, if I were to keep the NTSC A1000 then I'd prefer the power supply to be standard 110v and use the step down transformer (just for authenticity).
