And I quote: "At long last there is a simple and easy way to try out Linux on your Next-Generation AmigaONE X1000  without resorting to entering long lines of unintelligible code. You  can run Ubuntu Remix in Live mode straight from the DVD, or if you wish,  can install it to your hard disk drive alongside your AmigaOS 4  installation with the simple step-by-step installation guide. The Live  Ubuntu Remix DVD is the culmination of many months of work by the A-EON  Technology Linux Support Team, a small, dedicated group of international  AmigaONE X1000 beta testers and owners from the UK, Eire, Germany,  Australia & New Zealand. Not only is Ubuntu now easy to setup and  use on the AmigaONE X1000, the custom Linux Kernel includes full 3D  hardware support for series 4xxx, 5xxx and 6xxx RadeonHD graphics cards.  Also included on the DVD are the necessary development tools to enable you to compile your own kernel. Five unique A1-X1000 Linux Desktop backgrounds have been especially created for Ubuntu Remix DVD  along with SuperTuxKart 0.8 AltiVec™, a free 3D kart racing game which  has been customised for the AmigaONE X1000.

Selection of software included on the DVD plus access to thousands of  additional free & commercial packages from the Ubuntu software  centre:

20 quid ?

Is there something special about this ubuntu distribution thats not available from one of the Ubuntu mirrors? And if so - where can we download the source code  - this is a requirement of the GPL.

NO beside software package qiuite standard to Ubuntu, there is TuxCard and Gorky 17 Demo (not on sale, Steven sais they dont do Linux games anymore and will not renew sale of past titles)

AmigaKit charged me 10 quid for HDD install, ignoring Mint 11 request and not supplied CD until pressed.

Hmmm ... AEON is that legal? Its Ubuntu free product 99% with respect to hard work to the Linux X1000 and SAM team, maybe we could just donate to them or do Kickstarter. This faking product, and morever, Unity is so slow on X1000 Lubuntu with LXDE or XFCE is way better solution,

Software pack is good, beware if you take AUTO INSTALL it DELETES all partitions INCLUDING AMIGAOS 4!!!

Its for lammers, rest should follow nice Linux install guides

I guess if you lot are happy to spend ages getting ubuntu installed then crack on.   does explain why you MIGHT want this product.  Seems fair bit of work gone into it.  And afaik the fixed kernel is already available, jusging by the posts on this very site last week.

Its not like they trying to rip anyone off.

In my original post I asked if anything was different about this distribution that could not be obtained from one of the mirrors. Last time I installed Ubuntu it was way quicker and easier than any time i've installed Windows - in case you been hiding or your thinking of something like Gentoo - Many Linuces has been as easy or if not easier to install than other operating systems for a long time now. So is there some difficulty installing one thats distributed via canonical? If not then 20quid is a bit steep for downloading a distibution and burning it to cd /dvd.

If there are changes / improvements then according to the GPL they should be supplying the source code as well.
