INDY AGA MK1 strange display
« on: November 19, 2013, 08:09:47 PM »
Hi,

I have two identical INDY MK1 cards. Both when connected show at the display a little "shadow" in the icons and letters, much like when your vision isn't 20/20 and you see things a little bit missaligned.

The strange thing is tha both cards do this in two different monitors Samsung SyncMaster 710N & Samsung SyncMaster SA300. I have changed cables, VGA ports almost every possible combination.

ClassicWorkbench 3,9 seems to suffer a lot, Workbench 3.1 (plain) seems to suffer a liitle.

The funny thing is the starter image when it boots (the one with the Amiga rainbow and the disk drive seems ok)

Anybody know what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance

I have noticed this when I use a DVI to VGA adapter on my MKIIcr.  But if I use straight DVI everything shows just fine.  Don't think the MKI you have does DVI.  Couldnt really suggest much on what to do so it improves the picture quality.

Poor quality VGA cable? There's a huge difference in picture quality between a poor quality cable and a higher quality cable. A poor cable will be fuzzy/blurry somewhat.

Seems like imaging ghosting..

+1 make sure you have a high quality double shielded VGA cable with ferrite beads on either end to suppress noise.   Also you get small amount of signal loss over each connector you transverse.

Also make sure your making use of the grounding wire from the indivision.

Thank you all for your answers

What is that ground wire? I don't see any apart form the wire that leaves INDY to the VGA port

Are you referring to the VGA cable that connects to the monitor? Cause the other one (from INDY to VGA port is a standard issued form individual.

Believe he means the actual video cable going from the vga port of the indivision cable to the monitor. Mine wasnt the best of quality so that explains the shadow/ghosting problem.  Man up the vga cable and see what happens. :)

After seeing some pictures of the MKI, I didn't see a ground point like they have on the MKII cards.  Not sure if its even possible adding one. I wouldn't risk it since I would probably ruin it. :)

If the "insert disk" animation is okay but by the time it gets to Workbench the display is blurry, have you checked for heat?  Try running with the case open and a fan pointed at the system.  Many A1200 owners with Indivisions have added active cooling (fans) to their systems.  Google around, I'm sure you'll see lots of pics.  ;)

Thank you all for your answers.

Unfortunatelly the new high quality VGA cable that I bought didn't solve the problem ghost images remain. Here are some pictures, maybe yhese will help to identify the problem because I am ready to through them both out of the window :)

Go back to the original box and carefully read the installation instructions. While you have the box open look for the little earthing wire that comes with each Indy. Once you have your indys installed as per the instructions you can contact the retailer for support. If you didn't buy from a retailer you can skip the last bit.

Hi,

Don't have an Indy Mk1 card, but I would try removing it and seeing what kind of display you get off the 23 pin video connector off the back of the Amiga, I have the same problem with my GVP IV 24 card, when I first turn it on I get really bad ghosting and double vision, but if I leave it on after about 20 minutes it becomes clear, probably bad caps on the card somewhere. I know it is the GVP card only because I can use my home made adapter and hook it up to my Picasso II and everything off my Amiga's video port is clear. You don't state what kind of Amiga it is on, so good luck. I looked at the INdY cards but decided to go with one of those cheap $39 CGB, RGB to VGA cards off of ebay. I am happy I did I get a crystal clear picture and real nice color (had to adjust the color pots on the card to get the Blossom out, but if you read the instructions, like most Amiga users don't, you would know this and can correct the over bright or dark colors). I get no sparkle (good shielding) and love this card since I can remove it from one computer and hook it up to the back of another one since it plugs into the 23 pin video port, and hooks up to a 12 volt power supply that I made for it, or goes inside to hook up to a disk drive power plug inside the computer.

Try leaving your computer on for about an hour and see if the display clears up which will probably mean a cap is going bad, or maybe your chip just needs to warm up.

Good Luck

smerf
