Possible Migration 2 Minimig, but need MIDI support.

Lately I have been entertaining the idea of purchasing a 4Mb Minimig with ARM controller. My primary use of ECS Amigas is OctaMED S.S., so I would be using this to replace the A600 in my sound studio. I have read that someone built a MIDI interface for this, though I can't seem to find any up to date info on these. Anyone know where they can be purchased or who's putting them together or even if they are still around?

If I were to keep the 600 in the studio, I will end up putting it in the most slim desktop casing I can get my hands on, and slide it under another piece of hardware, using tiny PC mice and keyboards or at least wireless. Though both 600's need repairs first. One just got back (after 3 years) from a re-capping, but now has a broken IDE pin (came out with the cable oddly enough), so that needs fixed and the other need recapping.

Either way, I need fresh new hardware either way, and I hear that Minimig can get quite fast and is only held back by it's puny RAM limitations and traditional input/outputs. Which again brings me to MIDI support, I hope there is a solution for that.

The board has a RS-232 port which should be possible to adapt to MIDI bit rates? otherwise there's 3x spare generic I/O from the FPGA that can be (ab)used..

If you already have a midi interface with DB25 connector for the Amiga then all you should need is a standard DB9-DB25 adapter to connect it to the minimig. You can get those adapters anywhere. I think the midi build you referenced was someone who did not already have a midi interface, and so built one from scratch to connect to his minimig.

Really? Well that is great to know! I'd much rather use my authentic Amiga interface anyhow...

...time to start selling a few things so I can afford the Mig...

...wish they had more than 4Mb of RAM though. :/

Yeah, Amiga MIDI adapters are just simple wiring arrangements, since the Amiga's serial port is flexible enough to run at the standard MIDI rate of 31.25Kbps as well as more typical serial speeds.

How is your physical interface connection right now?

 What do you mean, on my actual Amigas? My 1200's got 34Mb total, as does my 600, the other two have not been modified yet (need re-capped first), but the 34Mb has been serving me well as I like to use large talkie samples in the noiz I make.
 Seeing as the Mig only has 4Mb, I will pretty much be using it as a controller only, though if I can figure out how to get the MIDI input working on my Akai XPM8, then I will not need to worry so much about the memory limitations.

 As for the FPGA Replay, I fully intend to buy one of those also when the time comes.
