WILD usb question
« on: October 31, 2013, 03:05:52 PM »
my a1200  has usb  ..love it to bits  just for the  usb  flash drives  so easy to move files  from pc  an back  now..
one thing ive noticed is it seems to be able to identify  whatever is plugged in even if it cant do anything with it ..
eg: i plugged my dlink usb tv card into it ..it identified it straight away model no etc  ..if i had a driver  maybe could even get a tv screen on my a1200 screen?? ..maybe ..maybe not ..
my question is  does anyone ever think that maybe if we could have a driver for some of these devices  usb could be even more useful ?? ..anyone  writing drivers for usb  for the amiga ?? or am i living in a fantasy world again ..

I'd hope that as most drivers exist under Linux and many drivers (such as this) just deliver a data stream, that drivers wouldn't be too difficult to port.  However, I'm sure this is a very overly simplistic view otherwise we'd probably already have drivers.

Of course, once you get the data you need an application (and power) to do something useful with it.  In the case of a DVB video stream I'm guessing that probably means 68060+ ?

I don't think the A1200s clockport would be vast enough for video. Also it would be using so much CPU that the m Amiga would have nothing leftover to decode the compressed stream. I could be wrong.
