CD-ROM in A2000
« on: October 28, 2013, 12:56:36 AM »
Okay, I'm pretty sure this has been beat to death, but I'm going at it from a slightly different angle.

I've got my A2000 upgraded with a kipper2 8MB RAM expansion, Megachip for 2MB chip ram, and a CFIDE68K booting from a 2GB microdrive.  Oh, it also has 3.1 ROM.

I'm wanting to add a CD-ROM to the system.  I would really like to use the CFIDE68K interface.

Is that possible?  What driver would work best?

I've got ASIM CDFS v. 2.0.  Will this do the job?

I am also going to drop in a GVP 030 combo board with a full rack of RAM.  Since it has a SCSI interface, would that work better for the CD?

Thanks,

Curtis

p.s.  Pictures forthcoming as the build progresses.

While I'm  not familiar with that particular IDE interface, IDEFix'97 is a better choice for adding the ATAPI software layer in an Amiga.  I have been using a CD-ROM in an unexpanded A2000 with an A2091 without any issues for years with the AsimWare software.  Both devices should work fine and a CD ROM or DVD ROM will work.

Looks like the CDROM works by using IDEFIX software http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=35133
You can also try to use your ASIM software and choose scsi.device (which should be in ROM) as your device driver.

Hmmm, sounds like IDEFIX is the way to go.

Thanks for the help and will report how it works along with pictures as I go.

I have a GVP 030 in mine and have a SCSI drive hooked up to the card. Use GVPSCSI.device and it works a treat.
