Amiga 1200 floppy drive "clicking" sound
« on: September 22, 2013, 06:40:44 PM »
Hi all,
I have recently acquired an Amiga 1200 thanks to Petro; I have been "feeling" my way around the system, as I have never had an Amiga before. So, everything seems to be perfect, except for a constant "clicking" sound that the floppy drive emits when no floppies are inside; it gives me the idea it's polling for a disk, because the sound stops when I put a disk in the floppy. Is this normal? If so, is there a way to stop it? I love the system because it's noiseless, but that constant "click click" is driving me nuts (and I don't want to always keep a floppy inside, if possible!) :pissed:

Thanks,
Antonio

The clicking is exactly what you expect, and is normal.  There are dozens of utilities that stop the "clicking", ranging from commodity utilities that perform many functions, such as MultiCX or MCP (both on Aminet), to utilities that stop only the clicking.  If you do a search on Aminet for "no click" you should find at least a dozen different options.

I should have known better to post AFTER googleing for a solution :p

So it seems there are quite a few patches, has anybody tried NoClick with these A1200? (They are Escom A1200, Kickstart/WB 3.1)

Thanks!
Antonio

Just try a few of these programs and see what works. Really, just do it :)

Can't tell you which one is good, because I used to use MultiCX and now MCP (both multi purpose utilities, and I don't have a floppy drive anymore).
