Cyberstorm MK III 80000004 Gurus
« on: April 30, 2013, 05:41:27 PM »
Bought a MKIII and installed in my 3000D.  Put in my SSD that has OS 3.9 BB4 that was used on my warp engine.  Installed the latest version of 060 libs from Phase5.org.  Confirmed that the Mask and Maxtrans were correct, it was formatted with PFS3.

It boots and appear fine.  But certain programs generate 80000004 errors.  Screenmode and HDtoolbox to name a few and whenever you calculate MIPS in sysinfo or sysspeed it guarantees a guru.  Other programs run normally.

Tried booting from a clean 3.1 partition and it worked better, IE I could use the 3.1 version of screenmode to select ECS screens.

The 3000D has a Cybervision 64 (using CGX4), Ariandne, Delfina Plus, and a Phonepak.  It has all the latest chip you can have in a 3000D.

Noticed the MKIII has 4 different SIMMs, the previous owner stated they worked fine.  I did run a memory test and no errors were found.

Ideas?

That's an illegal instruction exception, indicating that something has gone wrong when you copied the 68060.library, or it's not being loaded properly.

Are you running SetPatch in your startup-sequence? This is from where the 68060.library is loaded, and without it you effectively have an incompatible CPU.

I found the problem.  The 060 is an LC, which is basically useless.  It's slower than the Warp Engine 040 that it replaced.  The FPU truly makes a big difference.

Didn't even think these were an option back in the day from phase 5...

Thanks for the help.

Apollo did use LCs in their 75 MHz accelerators. LC is fine as long as you don't use something that needs FPU - which barely is used in Amiga. Look at A1200 - no FPU as standard.

That's right, Apollo's have non FPU 060 libs but I don't think the CyberStorm do...

Delete the Phase5 libs and install Thor's 68060.library instead.

As the P5 cards always were supplied with full 060 processors yours has been changed. The original libs may expect a full 060. So the MMULibs may be a cure. Or your processor might also be some fake from China...

Put a full 68060 in there. The full "RC" 68060 can be bought for $40-$50 and the FPU is very nice on an Amiga. It's a good FPU too. It's comparable in speed to a 68882 running at several hundred MHz.
