Hi All!

Ages ago I brought a towered A1200 with a blizzard 68040/PPC accelerator with BVision gfx card. I would really like to put it back into a wedge case, however I am not sure a) how to proceed and b) if it is even possible.

The reason being is I want the nostalgia back of the case shape (main reason) and also the tower is a real hacky mess with cables everywhere, with risks of shorts, and I want something neater and tidier.

So I guess I am after input as to whether it is possible/plausible (I know a 68040 is heat issue for a small cases, but have heard of people running it with the trapdoor open).

Cheers for any advice/input!

Hi!

Yes it's totally possible!  You can see mine running here:

I recommend as I have used to put small feet to raise the A1200 slightly, this will create an airflow underneath, I also put a fan above the BVision, it was quite noisy but quieter solutions are available.

I was using a converted ATX PSU and put extra Power into the Floppy connector, this helps ensure the BVision get's enough power.

You can do a tidier internal install taking more time, the only thing to bare in mind is during prolonged use is still gets pretty warm, if you put a separate fan on your 68040 this might help, look for a low profile chipset style cooler with integral fan and use adhesive transfer tape to secure.

Good luck with your project.

Steve.

I've been thinking that I'd like to create an expansion unit for an Amiga A500 Plus or A1200 which keeps the Amiga keyboard unit, but somehow attaches it to something like an A2000 box or even a tower. The tower would contain Zorro slots. Is that possible? Has anyone done anything similar?
