So please forgive me for the occasional slip-up.

Amiga on track  again

2004-01-27 10:35

This springs  launch of Amiga OS4 is supposed to give a new beginning to this classic platform.
That's the hope of Andreas Loong anyway, chairman/spokesperson for Amiga Computer Group.

By: Joel Åsblom

Last year Amiga supporters/users were left waiting in wain for the new operatingsystem Amiga Os4, but now a betaversion is in place and when Amiga Computer Group Göteborg (ACG) in april is having their annual fair the new version is hopefully finished.

Andreas Loong has already started looking on the betaversion and thinks there are many improvements.

- An important issue as that the entire operatingsystem is "lifted" from Motorolas 68k-platform to powerPCs c-code and the modernisation of the code, the added api's for things like games, he says.

He even notes that Amiga OS4 has had several improvements to the filesystem, f.ex. a tool for restoration of the system in case of crashes.

- Another cute thing is that if you f.ex. are using a game, the game itself can tell the system that you are busy and dont want to be disturbed by chat-messages etc.

An active union/group:

Andreas Loong tells that the union/group ACG Göteborg were started in august 2002 and has since become the most active Amiga-group/union in Sweden.

Their first Amiga fair AmiGBG 2002 had 450 participants, a number that should be higher when theirs hopefully a new OS to show.

Omongst the companies which sells Amigas in Sweden is notably GGS-Data in Göteborg which charges 11 785 SEK including VAT for an Amigaone.

The computers are delivered with an installation-CD for Debian -Linux, but the customers are going to get OS4 for free as soon as the product is finished.

(box on the side of the page)
Amiga is adapted to power-pc

During the spring the finished version of Amiga OS4 is expected to arrive and the most important news is the adaption to the PowerPC-platform.
On the 3. of april ACG Göteborg in association with Syntax Society from Landskrona arranges the fair AmigaGBG 2004.

More information can be had at amigbg.com and amigaworld.net
GGS-Datas products are present on ggsdata.se

Amiga back on track
2004-01-27, 10:35

This spring's release of Amiga OS 4 will bring this classic platform back into the light.
At that is what Andreas Loong, chairman of ACG(Amiga Computer Group), is hoping for.

Throughout last year, Amiga fans had to wait in vain for the new operating system, Amiga OS 4, but now a beta version is out and when ACG arranges it's annual fair the final version will hopefulle be complete.

The chaiman of ACG has, Andreas Loong, has allready taken a look at the beta and he thinks that there are many improvements.

- "One important thing is that the entire OS has been ported from the 68k-platform to the PPC-platform, others that the code has been modernized and new API's for games and such has been added", he says.

He also notes that OS4's filesystem has been improved; there is now a salvage tool to solve filesystem problems.

- "Another cool thing is that if you're i.e. playing, the game can tell the system that you're busy and don't want to be disturbed by instant-messaging programs etc."

Active user group
Andreas Loong tells us that the user group ACG Gothenburg was started in August 2002, and since then it has become the most active Amiga user-group in Sweden.
The group's first Amiga-fair in 2002 had 450 visitors, a number which is expected to grow as there will now be an OS to show up.

Among the companies who are selling Amigas in Sweden are GGS-data in Gothenburg, who sells AmigaOne for 11785 SEK incl. VAT.
The computer is delivered with an installation CD for Debian, but the companies customers will recive OS4 for free as soon as it is availible.

Among other resellers there is another company from Gothenburg, Guru Meditation.

They had one about MorphOS a few months back aswell. A complete review. They classified as a valid alternative computing platform if you're prepared to code applications youself... :-P

No, it's not. AmigaOS is.
Or did you mean the company? They haven't "left", have they? Not yet anyway.
