Calling time on classic hardware.
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:12:11 AM »
I have decided to call time on classic hardware. I just don't have the time or money resources to continue playing with classic miggies. I was in the process of towering a 1200 but it was proving to be a stretch with work, home life, 6 month old son and a lack of disposable cash due to the normal payments of living.

So it's all gone :( but gone to homes that can look after it all and give the hardware the much needed love and use I just couldn't afford to them.

Sniff.

It's always a shame when real life gets in the way of a hobby. Ive very nearly sold my classic gear a few times for the same sorts of reasons. In the grand scheme of things though it doesnt hurt too much. There's plenty of less expensive ways to still enjoy the amiga (forums, emulation, aros, etc.) so no need to give it up completely. Seems pretty reasonable to give a baby and family priority  :)
Perhaps somewhere down the track you'll find yourself in a better position to get back into "real" classic hardware again if you decide you'd like to.
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

I am not giving up completely ;) Iam going to use the dark arts of emulation to get my fix for the time been. But as you say I have to give somewhere and unfortunatly the miggy collection went :(

You could have give a temporary custody to someone for your Amiga until things change or just box it and put away in the closet, no need to sell.

To be honest the money was used for a holiday and to wrap some outstanding credit that was left on a card. I wasn't in debt trouble or anything so extreme and made payments but anything to ease the strain was enough :)

And Darrin I looked into FPGA solutions but again it's time and money plus my stupid monitor wouldn't support it. The holiday sounded much nicer lol. I did have a bit left over for a 1541 U II.

Have done it a couple of times myself. I even setup an amazing WinUAE box with two competition pros and modded it so it booted straight into OS 3.9. Was an amazing machine couldn't tell the difference from real hardware and it was very very fast. Scored the PC for free so it only really cost the two USB competition pros and some time to set it up.

But in the end I missed the Amiga soul I guess and fiddling with hardware trying to fit in a desktop case LOL.

Going to try and hold on to at least my 1200, it's the best Amiga I've ever owned. But I will need to sell my modded 500 soon :-(

When my child gets older I will start to invest again and the break from it all will make it all the more sweeter. But for now, and I draw a real tear in my eye, I can't be with real miggy hardware. It's a shame because I loved the old girls like they were family pets, part of the family. But i had to let them go. To better homes.

-ps

yes honestly I was gutted to sell them. But at least I have my C64 still.
