CPU meter for Amigas?
« on: February 18, 2013, 01:05:11 AM »
Hi, is there any CPU meter software that will run on a stock 68000 WB3.1 Amiga?

I found TinyCPU on Aminet, and CPULoadII on Aminet, but both want you to install extra packages to get them to run.  They also seem to emphasize fancy graphics or appearances and need some of the add on packages because of this.

I just want something simple and small that will let me run a few CPU load tests without installing a whole bunch of extras on my hard drive.  Thanks.

I use something called Idle which is excellent because its so small and there is a version for PPC cpu's too. But then I dont know if it requires something like MUI. Check it out though.

Scout used to be my goto app for that.

I don't know how well it performs on 68000 and it requires you to install something extra but i would try the top command from the executive package.

I use amigaload:

you can see your cpu usage fast chip and HDD drives. very useful program.

I ask the developer of the program for the software serial a few years ago and the program password is: Mellon

Cheers for AmiLoad wizard66 mate!

It seems really nice, although I never found a reason having meters for Amiga computers.

Anyway... I didn't know about it till now. Gonna try some LCD at some point for funz :P

Be careful though, as with a standard 7MHz 68000/010 cpu you will probably notice the cpu meter program slowing your Amiga down a bit. So I wouldn't recommend running it permenantly. I use Executive (free key is available as well). I've never tried the Executive package on 68000 before though.

Good luck with whatever you choose. :)

I tried all the software suggested.

Idle requires OS3.5
AmiLoad wants me to install the whole MUI package so it can have a fancy GUI.
Scout is a massive (for an A500) 1MB installation package

...hard to believe no-one made a small, no-nonsense CPU meter for Amiga.

Like I said, I just need it for one or two tests of CPU load, so I don't want a big installation package.  Also, this is a modest machine, so no large installation packages for the same reason.

So I guess I'm still on the hunt.

I've just remembered that Workbench 1.3 came with one on the extras disk, called perfmon. That still works on kickstart 3.0!
