Just received my Spider II USB 2.0 and...
« on: January 27, 2004, 04:33:58 AM »
It seems to not like my Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical.

I've installed Poseidon stack and spider.device according to Elbox's instructions, and the mouse works just fine for about a few minutes, and then it freezes. The system doesn't crash or anything, but the mouse doesn't react anymore on movement. If I try using the standard Amiga mouse, it works fine. If I try to unplug the USB mouse then plug it back in, it works again for a few minutes, then stops. When USB mouse freezes, Amiga mouse can continue to work from that point just fine.

I suspect that Spider doesn't like this mouse. So what do you all think? Should I go and get a Logitech Optical mouse or something non-Microsoft, or is there anything else to this problem?

Thanks.

Strange... I just took a look at the Spider II product page, but didn't find any hint that additional registration (and therefore additional costs) is necessary. No word, no link, nothing. That's fair competition.

This was one of Chris Hodges' main point in this issue, and nothing was changed there by Elbox.
The outcome can be seen here.

BTW, where did you get Poseidon from for installation ? Just being curious...

Michael

BTW, where

I'm considering the purchase of a Spider, but this Poseidon debarcle is confusing me. Exactly how/where does one obtain the Poseidon stack and exactly how/where does one register it?

I've seen that IOSpirit is mentioned, but I haven't found anything about Poseidon on their site.

Many thanks for clarification.

jax›?~: u get a cd with the spider, and u need to go to aminet and download poseidon (DEMO) , after that you can if you want! email chris hodges (email is in the poseidon archive) and tell him you want to register (info in the archive) , yopou then send the small fee to chris and within a few days/hours u have the key and can use it without lame timeouts!

the cd you get with spider only contains the Spider.device which u need to put in devs:usbhardware/ after you have installed poseidon .

its pretty easy and i would say its an ok solution.

cheers

I have no problems about registering Poseidon stack. I totally understand the time and effort which were invested in its development, however, I must be sure that I will get a working setup and not the same mouse error, if I buy the stack user license.

Does Chris browse A.org? I guess I'll have to e-mail him and ask.

The Poseidon stack (downloaded from the official homepage) says in its docs that Spider users need not to register. Why am I getting the timeout limit then, if that is actually the problem?

Once again, my problem is not paying, I can and will do that, but knowing that everything would work OK afterwards.

yes chris hodges browse this forum and where you read that SPIDER usb doesnt need registration to work beyond the time limits is beyond me..

here is a small tip

use your amiga mouse + usb mouse at same time..

when the usb mouse STOPS to work start trident and press OFFLINE and then ONLINE , if it works then...well there u have the answer(you need to register and get a key to the product)

cheers

m_boehemer: btw when you register spider 2.0 (or 1.0 i guess) (by sending in the normal elbox email with hardware code etc) then you will get an email in return stating where and why about the poseidon registration...

just checked my old emails..

@lempkee:

I've e-mailed Chris about registering. You are probably right about this. It's most likely the time limit kicking in, after a few minutes of usage.

Here is the part from PoseidonMain.lha archive, Registration.txt file about not needing to register which confused me on this issue:

ATTENTION: Users of the Highway, Subway and Algor boards  do  NOT  need  to
register!

I must have confused Subway with Spider when reading. :-) You were right, it doesn't mention any free usage for Spider users.

ok well i where just trying to help :)

now get on with it and register , but i would like to hear what happens when u press OFFLINE and then ONLINE in trident when the usb mouse stops to work (use your normal miggy mouse to select offline/online and your usb mouse SHOULD! work fine again , until the demo times out again)

goodluck and listen next time :P :))))

I need to order me a spider card, but OS4 will come with its own stack so I may just wait and see. I hear the Spider does work well though. Its just $60 for the spider and another $35 for Posiedon is a lot of money to spend.

@lempkee:

I'm at work now so I will try it and let you know once I get back home. I have a feeling that it will work just fine, because when I unplugged and plugged the mouse back in, it was again functional for 2 minutes. Offline/Online would probably produce the same result, but I'll confirm that later tonight.
