Burn Amiga readable CD on a PC?
« on: July 23, 2013, 06:14:50 PM »
Greetings to all Amiga fans.
Many eons have passed since I was an A1000-A2000 fanatic...and I still am.
I recently acquired a pristine (hardware-wise) A4000 with Toaster4000 board.
I have successfully loaded installed an IDE drive and loaded OS 3.1.
I have installed IDEFix and have can mount the CD/DVD drive that I installed in the A4000.
IDEFix seems to recognize it correctly as a Pioneer drive and mounts it as CD1:
I burned a CD from a OS3.9 .iso image onto a blank CD on my PC, stuck it in the drive but all I get is a "Not a Dos disk" message.
How can I burn an Amiga readable CD from the OS 3.9 .iso image?

Does the disk show up on the PC?  AFAIK Amiga CD's are just standard ISO 9660.

I use Nero 10 and Nero 12, and burn CD's on my PC and read them back on my Amiga all the time, but that's just files - but I've never tried creating an .iso of an Amiga disk or reading it back.  If you burn the .iso you have onto a blank disk are you able to read it's contents on the PC?

My bad!  Should've checked the readability of the disc in my PC first.
Burned new disc and it now reads in Amiga fine.
Now to the hopefully not too hard part...actually getting OS3.9 overwritten over 3.1.

BTW -anyone know good sources of zorroIII high res video expansion cards?  Expansion cards and hardware in general for the A4000 seems pretty scarce even on auctions these days.
I was lucky to find an A2065 ethernet card from an old friend who used to own an Amiga store.
Also I have the Toaster4000 card but no Flyer and no software either. Hmmm...
Some people say the Toaster SW is now opensource but I can't find it.

An old friend who had a complete video editing suite set-up sold me his entire collection including all his discs.  He had bought it back in 2005 and had  some BUs on HD.
Part of my grief was the A4000 I 'inherited' had had it's disc wiped (apparently the policy of the reseller to catch any possible personal data).  So lost was all the OS, the Toaster and other video editing SW and any all utilities that were there.  -Groan- so this rebuild had to start from an empty drive.
