Best sound card for Zorro Slot
« on: December 26, 2012, 12:51:11 PM »
I'm looking to purchase a sound card for my amiga.  I will be using it for playing mpegs exclusively.

My system is a 3000 with a 40MHz 040 and 64mb ram.

I used to have a delphina lite many years ago and it was decent.  But I always heard the Delphina Plus was the best zorro card for playing Mpegs, since it helps the cpu?   Would love to multitask while playing music...

They all about the same for my needs?

Thanks for the feedback.

Why not a MAS-Player? Much cheaper and more efficient.

Interesting idea that I never heard of.

I still would prefer filling my last open card slot in the 3k.  This is an emotional purchase not one based upon logic:)...

Appreciate the great suggestion, looks like a Delphina is the way to go...

More efficient, how?

Anyway, MAS is nice standalone hw player just for mp3, but if you want other benefits of the separate audio card... I for example really like mixer in audio card (Delfina Lite in my case), you can hear audio from Paula, CD, card itself (mp3) and even from some external sources from the one output simultaneous.
Daily MorphOS user and Amiga active.

Seems like a bit of a waste of an expensive semi pro-level sound card (i.e. AD516, Repulse, Toccata or Delfina) just to hear MP3s on an Amiga (Amiga sound cards are usually quite pricey).

I can see a musician or someone doing video or audio editing needing one of these cards, but if all you're going to do is play MP3s, the MAS player is a lot easier on the wallet and less scarce (you can actually buy one now from AmiKit instead of hunting around on ebay for a used card which will cost at least twice as much).  You can actually buy one from Amikit right now, for instance.

As for mixing Paula audio with the MAS player output, a simple "Y" cable should suffice - or just buy the "MAS Player Evolution" model. The MAS Player Evolution model includes a built-in mixer and connectors to accept audio from the Paula output (or any other source):

Hi Drummerboy,

Might be interested.  I live in NYS.  PM me the details and asking price.

Wonder what the tradeoff would be with the toccata would be with the delphina?
