Amiga 1200 rebuild.. Great Spec (Ebay)

Heres a nice Amiga 1200 thats need rebuilding... Good spec with an acclerator and other bits included..
 
This will look like brand new when compleated :)

Me! Seriously these were only on the fabric for 1 minute like 3 weeks ago.

Im sure people who are into building computers wear anti static bands anyway.

One of my brother's friends used to stick a few RAM sticks into the pocket of his jeans and they were still working after a long 10 mile trip.

On the opposite, I have already blown two graphics card (while having them placed on anti-static material nontheless).

Ive had quite a few messages about this project that I cannot answer so have decided to end the listing.

I will get it fully working as a Amiga 1260 and will list it with a policy that it can be returned.

This will save me possible future hassle.

While you're right about synthetics and wool, I think cotton and linen (which most bedsheets are made out of like shown in the eBay photo) are actually not static electricity generating.  I'll have to check that out.

EDIT: checked....yeah, cotton is one of the lowest static electricity generating fabrics out there and linen in non-static generating, apparently.

Just as bad as all the auctions I see with hardware sitting on carpet :-) The thing about static electricity is the damage doesn't always show up straight away.

Attitudes have changed a lot, gone are the days people use anti static mats/bands. Or even put components in anti static bags.

I still stick to some old fashioned habits that I learnt many moons ago building computers from scratch.

Bah, I never bothered much with anti static anything. I put ram or various chips in a plastic bag, components and add on cards all in a big huge tupperware bin, never had any problems, from static anyhow.

Some guys are super anal,using anti static everything and even wearing anti static wrist staps while working. Thats just insane.

While I'd certainly condone the use of anti-static stuff, I've seen electronics survive harsh treatment.  It's a bit of a crap-shoot.

I successfully installed and used a PCI a SCSI card that had been left out on a "FREE" table in the rain and mud for a week (after washing and letting it dry off completely for a few days).

I live in a very humid climate.
What static electricity?

And the 1200 is sold before I even see it!

I'll rather be safe then sorry, also when it's old no longer produced hardware I'm not taking any risks, ESD damage might not be seen directly and I've destroyed a few things over the years and some of value.
I destroyed a Radeon hd 5870 2GB eyefinity edition for 6 monitors, that was 600$ down the drain and I only handled it with my hands while reworking my system. But it become a nice expensive book stand ;)

Then I've had things working that have been handled badly.

So the risk is there and it's up to you how cautionus you are. Tho I never buy anything laying around on textile and such.
