Amiga OS compared to modern OS
« on: September 07, 2012, 03:20:00 PM »
I noticed the bloatware topic came up.
Under Commodore, Amiga OS remained very lean, probably because it helped them ship more Amigas at a lower cost. Then as add-ons started coming that were above the ability of the hardware, things started to slow down.
A web browser did not slow down my Amiga, but when you add some below par and flakily written programs like the email available... or a simple hog like DOpus the system was becoming slow.
Some people say that Amiga OS would be just as bloated as Windows. Supposing OS 4.1 had a lot more software and hardware perhaps it would be. It and AROS are somewhat leaner than Windows.

If all we had was bad software developers it would be bloated. The opposite if we had the better software developers.
