CF/USB options for A2000 (ZII)
« on: September 05, 2012, 03:30:58 PM »
Since my last amiga was basically networked all the time, I never used any USB or CF add-ons, just passed things along via TCPIP

Now that I have a A2000/Video Toaster w/ no networking wanted, 'm wondering what the options are for USB or essentially a way to transfer files. Are there ZII boards available that offer the possibility of using USB sticks or Compact Flash?  Or is everything in the used market now?

Thanks

You can use a SCSI - IDE converter and then an IDE-CF adapter, you can also by an all in one SCSI CF reader. I have both and they work great

thanks
Amiga 1200/030 50mhz, 64mb ram

Amiga 2000, 030 25mhz, 7mb ram, A2320,  SCSI2CD

Amiga 3000/030 25mhz, CF SCSI card

Amiga 4000/ 040 33mhz 274mb ram

There is no better option than the SCSI card readers from Mech, he's here on the forum to help if you have a problem setting it up. I bought one and think it's the best thing ever with a SCSI connector on the back. Use CF and SD cards with it.

Thanks to all for the help, that's exactly what I was looking for - the one on the MechWare site, nice clean solution.

There are no USB solutions for Amiga readily available for sale right now.  If there were, you could get a Deneb and boot directly from USB, or a Subway and some kind of clock port adapter, and boot from USB.

You can boot from a CF by connecting it to a compatible IDE controller, but again, none are available any longer.  The best would have been Buddha.

You can boot from a CF card seated in a CF->IDE adapter which in turn is seated in an IDE -> SCSI bridge which in turn is connected to a SCSI controller.  All of these parts can be found on eBay, and SCSI controllers for a 2000 are still pretty easy to find used.

The most elegant combo for a 2000 is to obtain an accelerator that includes a SCSI controller on board, and attach this to an AztecMonster, which is a purpose-built SCSI-> compact flash adapter (combining the best elements of a CF->IDE adapter->SCSI bridge).  From there, you just add any CF card.

Please see the posts above.  Mech's device lets you boot, backup, and restore all quickly & quietly.
