short silent movie about aros68k on my amiga ;)
« on: August 27, 2012, 02:50:03 AM »
starring an a4k /060-50 csppc 128mb, revision d equipped with mediator4kdi and currently only cv64 and x-surf. usually i use sunrise as516 for sound under aros, just because i couldnt find another zorro soundcard, even though im sure i have one. pci not supported yet, devices get recognized though.
miamidx comes handy as network stack, as aros native one doesnt seem to be functional yet. a number of software i tried to run, mostly on rtg. as you see no crashes but even if there is one mostly it gets handled by the system, so its just an app that crashes. i forgot to run the most, among those my own sdl aos 68k ports (kuklomenos and pig in that case), which i will try to catch up with next time.

even though as it seemingly doesnt meet much interest a little update:

here microbe3d an application by alain thellier, taking advantage of his wazp3d. it is a 3d obj model viewer. remember we have to do with a cybervision64 equipped machine, so even if hardware acceleration was supported there is no 3d hardware, so its sloooow.. but either it would be under original os.

following we have some wanderer browsing as pavlor wished for to find a copy of my sdl port of fixed rate pig (a simple sdl game). you see wanderer is slooow to, but thats what i admitted from the start. the game itself nevertheless is as fast as on aos, as you can see from the framerate printed. i guess a tried to play a little to long holding the camera.. you can just skip it..

and last but not least another port ive done but have not released it i think (for performance reasons, but now maybe i should reconsider). kuklomenos, its quite neat looking imho, though quite abstract. i dont quite understand it let alone i can play it, so i ve let it be..

edit: i couldnt get adoom to run on my machine, it breaks up with the same memory allocation error on aros as under aos, so no timedemo for the time being, sorry.

ADoom uses gfx card as framebuffer (direct copy to gfx mem) so there will be hardly any difference because it doesn't rely much on the underlying OS, just like Quake.

If you forced me to choose between harakiri or using Wazp3D on a classic I would choose the former.

i guess so, but someone on aw.net demands this demonstration.

yes, but wazp is interesting as compatible warp3d replacement. the latter is buggy and hardly possible to fix, we were working on that some time ago together with alain, bernd and matthey, and very little came out of that perhaps partly due to our inability (im a complete noob anyway) but also due to lack of sources and documentation. everything had to be found out by hand and edited in asm. i think karlos had done a better job since then, but only for ppc and i dont want to know what must he have done to be allowed to.

nevertheless 68k wazp demonstration is only a first step, on winuae and aros wazp has a backend for hardware acceleration, in the later case through gallium afaik. lets see if and what will that bring to the so called "classic", which i prefer to call amiga.
