Hmm..... For future reference, the only slot on any Amiga that is hot-swappable (able to plug in while computer is turned on and not cause possible damage) is the PCMCIA slot on the side of the A600/1200. (Several ports, such as USB also are, but generally, unless it's a PCMCIA card, you probably should shut the machine off before inserting or removing anything.)
Now, you can also see the replies to the other threads here on mis-behaving Apollos. Power supplies, RAM on the Apollo, jumper settings, etc, could also be causing you problems, if you managed to escape hardware damage, this time. ;-)
