Ethernet on an A500 with Bodega Bay
« on: May 17, 2012, 12:07:07 AM »
Okay, what would be the best way to 'net up with this setup?

For those who don't know, with the Bodega Bay, the A500 is essentially an A2000.

RAM is maxed out and I don't have an accelerator in her (yet!).

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Curtis

p.s.  If anyone has an Ethernet card that would work with this rig, I'm interested.

I used an A2065 in my A500 + Bodega Bay combo. It worked well and was trivial to setup.
You can go other ways but I think that's the most straight forward and easy option.

+1

I used an A2065 in a slingshot pro (with an A500 HD 8+) without any problems.

Just remember to get a 10baseT to AUI transceiver

There is an A2065 on ebay that ends in 4 hours, but it is already over $175

I know nothing about the Bodega Bay, but I've used a few different network cards in the A2000 without issues,

Ariadne, Hydra and Golden Gate 2+ ISA Bridge with NE2000 ISA Network adaptor. There's lots of different models, try EBay or Amibay is probably your best bet.

The $175 bid WAS mine.

Sucker ended up at $275!  Not THAT interested in getting it online!

However, from all the comments I now have a real good idea of what to look for.

Thanks everybody!

Have been and will continue to monitor both ebay and amibay.  Still it looks like these aren't as common as I would hope!

I'm figuring that out especially after that ebay auction ending so high!

I sold an X-Surf II last year, and I keep my 3cc on-hand for potential future uses (or extortion-rate sale price :))  I went USB on my 4000D and it's fan-bloody-tastic.

Also keep an eye out for a Deneb.  If you can pick one of those up in your price range then you can use a $10 USB-Ethernet dongle (which is what I do on my A4000).

Mind you, used Denebs are like rocking horse droppings.

@curtis

Weren't you looking for a bridgeboard for this bodega bay configuration.
did you get one?

kinda like Robert17 was mentioning with the golden gate 2+
you could use
Etherbridge12.lha or EmuNet09b.lha both on Aminet
with an ISA ethernet card and your BB.
I bet you could get a really cheap ISA ethernet card.

As for your desire to get a CPU Accelerator, to bad that the Bodega Bay doesn't provide a processor slot.

Yep, that was me.  I've got a 386SX board on the way.

I've seen a few of the golden gate 2+'s around, but wasn't real sure how well they worked.

How does the GG2+ work?  Are any cards on the ISA side accessible to both sides of does it lock them down to just the Amiga side?  If it goes both ways, I can visualize some really interesting set ups!

Yeah, the cpu accellerator is a bit of a bummer, but there are quite a few out there for the 500 that will do quite nicely.  Don't need the biggest and baddest, just something to give it a bit of a oomph.

Also found a little circuit that allows full use of an A2000 keyboard with the 500 with full reset capability!  Just jumping the common lines doesn't give you that capability.

You do not need a golden gate if you already have a bridgeboard.

The Bridgeboard will act as the "bridge" between the Zorro II and ISA slots.
