Pittsburgh PA Says "Hi Yinz!" + Audiomaster Noob Question
« on: September 05, 2011, 10:35:35 PM »
And for those confused at my title, if you're from Pittsburgh, "yinz" means "you", "you all", "everyone", etc.  I'll try not to use other Pittsburghese to spare the confusion!  Now down to my problem- I dug out all my A500 gear from my garage the other week (bought it in '86, last used in '92) and, in particular, found that I have an original Audiomaster (not copy) and file disk that don't work.  I believe the file disk has AM recordings from my nephew/niece from when they were tots almost 20 years ago.  I'd really like to see what's on the disk but am not sure where to turn at this point.  My WB1.3 disk won't load either.  Other original and game copies do load but I don't have any rhyme/reason as to why or why not.  I also have some utility programs but don't remember just by the name of them if any of them are disk repair software programs or not.  And I'd be afraid of trying them for fear of them wiping the data (not that I can access it now anyways...).  It also doesn't help that I'm pretty clueless when it comes to diagnosing what may be wrong with the disks or A500 itself.  I bought the computer solely for gaming and know virtually nothing about programing, schematics, chips, etc.  Sorry in advance for any dumbing down you have to do for me, but for anyone that can get the Audiomaster files to load, you can pick your favorite item for free of the games (you may have everything anyways, but who knows?!) or hardware (backup A500 or external hard drive?) from my stash, or if you're a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, I have a load of memorabilia and would be more than happy to return the favor!

Hey :D
I can't help, i'd like to congratulate you on not losing faith...but i'd be quite surprised if anything form of magnetic storage could last that long without degrading badly :\
Then again, your games work :)
"Amiga Forever" comes with WB emulation that I think you can put onto a disk, but amiga format DD disks are pretty different to PC HD disks...
I suggest you have a peek in the emulations section of the forum.
I'm pretty new also.

Thinking you know why you behave as you do gives you all sorts of excuses for extraordinary behavior.

Hi,  Go Pens, Steelers, Pirates :),  as for your A500 question:

Does the famous amiga hand and disk image come up when you turn it on?? if can see the hand what verison number is in the corner v1.2 oro v1.3?  I am guessing since you  bought this in circa 1986 this is probably v1.2.
If you can see the hand and disk you probably only have either a disk drive problem or bad floppy disks.

or is the screen left with a solid color?  if so which color?

Does your amiga have the trapdoor expansion?  if it does is the battery still in it?  is the battery leaking?  can you pull it out? and attempt to turn the amiga on?

Don't follow American Sports here, we're in the early weeks of Rugby League, Rugby Union & AFL here.

HMMMM!!!

Rugby, is that where a bunch of Aussies, take a dirty old rug, hang it on a line and then at the sound of the referees whistle beat the hello out of it to see which team can get it clean first.

Quite boring I must say

Nothing like a Pittsburgh Steeler Smashmouth Football game.

American football is boring! All that stopping and starting. *YAWNS*.

Even worse is stopping the whole match just so the tv station can play an advert on tv.
Even my cat doesn\'t like me.

Yeah, what is with all that bubble wrap on the American Football players, are they that fragile?  Then they're stopping every three seconds and jerking their chain.  Stupid sport, no wonder nobody outside the US watches or plays it.

You, or as in the Burgh say "Yinz",  just don't understand the complexity and strategy that down play allows.   American Football is more than just a bunch of people running into one another.  It is about planning, creativity, and intelligence...........  adjectives that often describe Amiga users.

It would appear from the rules that American Football more resembles Rugby League than Rugby Union, but quite frankly I don't get the bubble wrap.  You stop the game all the time, the scrum is deprecated, and the number of plays greatly reduced, why the comfy chairs costumes?

Hi,

Oh I get it ya all like watching rugby so you can watch all the cute boys run around in their short pants.

American Football takes real men, they wear protective clothing in order to protect themselves, sort of reminds me of Knights in Armor going to war.

While rugby players sort of remind me of little lord faunteroy running to school to avoid the big bad American football player bullies.
