Reroute A500 internal floppy to external
« on: March 28, 2012, 12:16:33 AM »
Okay, so I'm working with this beast of a Bodega Bay and would like to disable?reroute the internal floppy drive to a drive in the BB's expansion chassis so I can actually SEE the floppy drive.

Is this a relatively easy job or should I just live with the internal drive?

I seem to remember ICD having a product called a shuffleboard that did this.  However, finding that is probably a bit more difficult than finding a hen's tooth!

Personally, I'd just leave it alone. Reroute the internal drive and suddenly, it'll feel a lot less like an A500. Then again, you've got that big old beast hovering over it that probably changes the feel altogether anyway.

If you must re-route it, easiest thing I can think of is getting a longer ribbon cable and maybe hacking some kind of a faceplate for it. Too much trouble though IMO.

You could swap/reroute the _SELx lines from the U8 CIA (pins 13 & 14), then DF1: becomes DF0:

I bought an NOS Amiga 500 Boot Selector off ebay a couple of years ago that does the same thing. Only cost about £10 and works pretty well.

Hmmm, looks like it's not going to be as easy as I was hoping.

Guess I may just go ahead and keep it as is as suggested by save2600.

Isn't there some cheat/copy device that does this?

Dunno.  That's why I was asking here.  Figured if there was a simple way to do it, I'd be able to get an answer here.

The action replay used to let you do it but I remember having problems with some software.

Sure wish it was as easy as getting an extra long floppy cable and routing it through then using a drive from one of the big box Amigas.

Of course you can use a long cable and relocate the driver whereever you like. :)
