TVPaint under UAE
« on: March 16, 2012, 04:56:09 AM »
Hi,

WinUAE runs almost everything I throw at it - including TVPaint.  However, when using the arc and circle tools I get some graphic corruption onscreen.  It's just a bunch of whitish pixels around the arc.  The corruption also happens when I use a particular drawing brush - the pencil brush.

I seem to be the only one that gets this as I don't find anyone else online who has this problem.
I've changed many things in UAE trying to get rid of this graphic garbage.
I've tried changing Picasso96 settings.

When I save the actual image from TVpaint, the corruption is not part of the saved image.  The garbage also disappears if I do anything to refresh the TVPaint screen (i.e. if I flip the screen horizontally then back, or drag a window over the garbage then move it away).  This is a workaround, but I'd like a permanent fix.  Lots of people online say they can run TVPaint under UAE very well.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can prevent this?  (it uses RTG screenmodes).

Absolutely no other software gives me this problem under UAE (and I use a lot of other paint programs under UAE).

Thanks.

I don't have a clue but doesn't WinUAE come with a special version of picasso96.library? Have you replaced it? Just a suggestion.

Hi,

Yes I am using the special replacement Picasso96 library provided by WinUAE.
It's really needed in order to make Picasso96 RTG screens fast enough to be useable.

But as an experiment I wonder what would happen if I substituted it for the original "real hardware amiga" Picasso96 library.  Maybe there is a bug in the UAE Picasso96 library.

It's just funny that no other software I'm running on the same WinUAE configuration shows similar corruption (and here's what I've tried: DPaint, ImageFX, Brilliance, Personal Paint, Perfect Paint, Art Effect, Alladin4d, Lightwave, Cinema4d, PageStream, etc. etc. etc.)

Interesting problem...

I'd like to hear from anyone who has successfully run TVPaint under WinUAE.

What kickstart are you using with it? I might be mistaken, but I recall TVPaint being in the 1.x era... it might require older kickstart to function properly, perhaps?

I'll try it with an older kickstart, but I recall using it with my OS3.9 based Amiga 2000 when I was using real Amiga hardware and it didn't give me the problem it is in WinUAE.

I might have to post this as a possible bug on English Amiga Board.

TV Paint even works under AOS 4 (saying even since compatibility is usually higher with WinUAE) so it seems strange. I haven't tested TV Paint all that much though. Are you using the latest version of TV Paint?

I had the same type of issues with TVpaint artifacts under WinUAE a while back.At the time I searched around and I did not see anyone with the same issue. I'll have to try it again.

TVPaint requires a GFX board with 15bit video or better, so I seriously doubt it was made in the 1.x era when they had no such thing - unless it was way ahead of its time.
