PSX to DB9 Help!!!

Have finally recieved 2 adaptors from Animaniac but can't get them to work with my Dualshock2 or PSX Mouse.
 
I am plugging in the controller and follwoing the key presses but doesn't seem to work.
 
Anyone got one of these who can offer advice?
 
I am wondering if mu Dualshock2 is working?
 
Also have logic 3 tri-format arcade stick (PS2,Xbox,PC) but this doesn't work either.

Good news - the dualshock was not working after all!  Picked up a few more pads from a carboot sale this morning and all is well.
 
Nothing compares to playing Battle Squadron with 2 button support - no more problems triggering the Nova bombs.
 
Can highly recommend these adaptors.
