Berlin
« on: November 14, 2004, 09:14:14 PM »
In the continued absence of CH/Travel, I will just post here  :-D

I've just returned from a long weekend in Berlin.  It's a pretty cool city, even though it was very very cold!  The public transport system there is really good - I was very impressed with the U-Bahn!

I think we saw most of the famous sites, but I was most impressed by the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, I think I spent over 2 hours in there - it was fantastic and very informative about the GDR and other Central and Eastern European states' struggles.

Anyway, just wanted to say thank you to Berliners for making their city such a great place to visit - hopefully I'll be back there before too long!

They say that one of the most startling things about Germany to Brits is the lack of rubbish on the streets. Go anwhere in the UK and you'll see litter lying around. Is it cleaner in Germany?

@KennyR
Yeah, the streets are nice and clean, they were even sweeping up the falling leaves from the trees.....

....just like here in Newcastle, where the city has a huge fleet of motorised pavement cleaners that chase you about and suck up rubbish.

The council has introduced a new regulation where you get fined £200 for dropping litter, a law that I personally think is eroding my civil liberties.  Although I don't want to, I should be free to throw my crisp packets and bits of left-over cheeseburger onto the pavement.

Anyway, I think my point is that "messy english people" is just a stereotype.

Does anyone know of an Amiga store in Berlin? Or a users club? I have problems and need help with my A4000/040.

Sheesh, talking about thread necromancing.
Well, one thing I know for sure is there's one Amiga store in Germany: http://www.vesalia.de (they can speak English afaik)
Considering your problems with your A4000, buy contact spray and compressed air from any electronic parts shop, spray every connector with it and blow clean it with the compressed air, take socketed chips out and spray clean them as well. Check battery and if that has leaked, clean it with some lightly soggy cloth and replace the battery (though chances are it has destroyed your Amiga). If the battery hasn't leaked, yet it still doesn't work, you could (let someone) replace the capacitors.
Oh, btw. don't worry about the contact spray, it doesn't short anything at all.
And the canary said: \'chirp\'

I lived in the North East of Scotland for 3 years so I will have to disagree. Not all of the UK is a Sh****le. Sadly the town I live in now (Diss, in Norfolk) is noticeably grottier since the Tories got in locally. That was just before they got in nationally (and no, I didn't vote for them).
Falling into a dark and red rage.

Not to mention Cyberus and T-Bone. Thought the universe had imploded for a second when I saw KennyR's name.
