Need some Mediator / Ethernet help.
« on: January 16, 2012, 09:15:10 PM »
I have an A1200 with the Mediator 1200 TX, and the 100mbit PCI ethernet card from AmigaKit (8139 chip if I remember correctly.), running OS 3.9.

The documentations say to get the ethernet card working, it must have some RAM from the PCI Voodoo card to work, so i have 8mb allocated as memory, the other 8mb allocated for the Voodoo card itself.

The memory appears fine on my system, as does the Voodoo card, works great with RTG.

I cannot get the PCI Ethernet card to work. PCI scanning programs show the card there, but no matter what internet stack I use (MiamiDX or EasyNet (frontend for AmiTCP)) I cannot get the card to go online. I'm using FastEthernet.device v1.25 and PCI.library v9.7.

It's like the software cannot communicate with the card at all. I cant Query SANAII paramaters, or anything else. I know my network settings are correct, but it never gets that far because it doesnt see the card.  If I force it online, trying to ping the router gives me no route to host.

There has to be something simple I'm missing here, everyone else with this hardware has gotten it to work, and I've been googling for a week to find answers, but it seems as if I have everything setup correctly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really want to get this thing on the internet. I'm at work now but will be home shortly if you need a more details about my configuration.

Thanks in advance,
John

Try putting your ethernet card in different slots. you want video and usb closer to the motherboard connection side and the sound and ethernet a bit farther away,at least thats how it works for me. As far as i know you dont need to allocate anything off the video card, the devices use the ram automatically.I use SMC 1211TX cards for fastethernet myself.

As long as you have a hardware definition setup calling fastethernet.device you should be able to query the card in miami.

Also check any jumpers on the mediator for correct orientation.

Thanks for the reply. I currently have the ethernet in the first card slot, but have also tried it in every other slot. I read a few people could only get it working in the first slot, but I was able to get it recognized by pciscan in any of them.

Jumpers are correct, theres one i tried to change, but then none of the PCI cards were recognized, so I put it back.  The PCI video works perfect.

Elbox sent me a bad or incompatible ethernet card with my Mediator that didn't respond at all. I tried another off E-bay ($5) and it works great. Your problem could be different though. The best help is here...

I found an ethernet card on ebay for under four dollars including shipping, so I'm going to try that :)

I'll post if the card was the problem or not.
