RGB issue with hard disk or CF HDD
« on: January 27, 2012, 11:39:41 AM »
I noticed a problem in my Amiga 1200 bought in UK from ebay, when I connect to the TV RGB scart cable if you start a game from a floppy it works fine , but if you boot from CF or hard drive you see a black screen.
I tried the western digital hard drive 60 MB of an old Amiga 1200 with which you can see from the RGB when booted from hard disk and can not see anything even with that, putting the 1200 cf into the old amiga 1200 the screen remains black.
is this a problem of ide-RGB? or RGB cable does not fit with the UK Amiga 1200?
Sorry for the confusion in the explanation:).

an update i have removed the GVP JAWS II turbo card and the RGB signal loaded from hard disk worked, the same with another amiga 1200 so itsnt a problem of the amiga. its a problem of ide and jaws II i think.

Update,One step forward, I removed the connector and the RGB SCART and found a loose wire from the connector pin RGB, I resoldered the wire where it seemed there was welding. I reconnected the cable and I got an image with a gray shadow of the workbench icons. Probably there is some contact between the wires of the connector or I have soldered the wire to the wrong place, however I will try with another cable rgb.

Sounds like a power issue imho, too much load.

Are you using the standard a1200 psu, or even an A500 one? You could try powering using an ATX psu and connecting to the power header for the floppy drive. I believe there is a -12V missing compared to the Amiga psu, but it shouldn't cause any problems in terms of testing the display with all the extra peripherals attached, just possible audio problems iirc.

If this does turn out to be the cause, you can always hack together an ATX-Amiga adapter using Steddy's excellent guide.

It was the RGB connector definitly, i have resoldered the little cable at number 10 in the RGB connector and the image is perfect :).
