Odd one I think
« on: January 08, 2004, 07:57:56 PM »
Got an A1200 in a Power Tower with their keyboard adaptor, which has an A4000 keyboard attached. The problem is that if I press CTRL AMIGA AMIGA the L.E.D. on the capslock flashes but the Amiga doesn't reset. Any ideas?

have you checked everything is connected properly?

Yup - pretty common problem... Your 1200 (And I suppose all 1200s) only support Reset through the internal keyboard connection. The keyboard itself has a controller which transmits the special reset code down the wire, then resets itself (the flash you see), but the A1200 doesn't know what to do with this signal as its own keyboard controller *didn't* send the signal through a dedicated line for reset. Only way around it is to install a reset button hack (I did, works fine) or maybe a reset commodity that looks for a different combo. I wrote one years that rebooted when you pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL, but I'm damned if I can find it now...

I've found that the Eyetech EZ-Key XS supports the reset command with a Windows 98 keyboard, but that there's no way of doing the three finger salute with an IBM AT style keyboard.

Having never used an A4k unit, I can't comment on compataibility but I do know that some keyboard adaptors either connect via an inverted (?) socket on the keyboard chip, or via the ribbon cable connector.

Thanks for the replies. One other thing that I should have mentioned and that's the CTRL key does seem to function normally either. Eg, CTRL + C does nothing.

As for the reset hack, I've got that though the Power Flyer so it's not much of an issue, the CTRL key not doing anything is more of an issue.
