AmiTCP with Amiga PPP V1.45 and Windows7
« on: January 02, 2012, 08:22:16 PM »
Hello. I'm stuck..

I'm trying to get a TCP/IP stack running on my MiniMig 1.1 via a Bluetooth serial adapter. I'm trying to connect to a Windows7 box.

Anyway, I have set up AmiTCP 4.0 demo version with Amiga PPP V1.45 eval.

On the windows side I have set up "Communications cable between two computers" and I have assigned that to an "Incoming Connection". I have also checked the option that says "[X] Always allow directly connected devices such as handheld computers to connect without requiring a password"

I have not tried to make a script because I don't really know what the windows side is looking for. I have tried to connect to it via NCOMM and its not prompting for a user name or password or really anything. I can see ppp.device is trying to do something, but its not what Windows is looking for. You can see from the log.

here is my ENVARC:SANA2/ppp0.config

serial.device 0 115200 0.0.0.0 7WIRE CD EXERCISE=60 MTU=1500 SHARED

here is my AmiTCP:db/interfaces line for ppp.device

# NATE MIAMI DX PPP DEVICE
ppp0 DEV=DEVS:networks/ppp.device UNIT=0 IPTYPE=33 NOARP P2P

Any ideas? This would enable basic internet on my Minimig if I could get it to work...

Thanks for reading!

Here is the windows log of the connect attempt:

I have no experience with your setup, but based on the Windows log I suspect the data is not received correctly. Some encoding or serial setup mistake. What does the 7wire option do? Can you change it to a basic serial something?

7WIRE tells PPP device to use CTS/RTS handshaking which I do have enabled on the Bluetooth serial adapter. There was one other option I did try. "NOID" if I remember correctly. That one disables "Amiga PPP V1.45 (09.03.96) 68000 evaluation version on serial.device unit 0 at 115200 baud. Copyright (C) 1994 by Holger Kruse" string, sut that really did not help.

Thanks

I'd be tempted to try the same under Linux as at least the PPP implementation under Linux is sane/tried/tested/talks-to-anything plus has a *lot* of history / articles available online.

However, if you're not familiar with Linux it may be a long frustrating path.

Are there any other 3rd party PPP 'services' for Windows?

According to this:

http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-ppp@vger.rutgers.edu/msg02794.html

You need to get the amiga to send the text "CLIENT" first for it to work (then probably wait for CLIENTSERVER but it probably won't hurt if you don't).
If you type it in your terminal emulator you should see it happening, but after that you'll need to encode PPP packets and they are much harder to type.

perhaps the GNU pppd is part of Cygwin... I'll look into that.

I guess I could always try and set up a virtual machine linux... I wonder how that would work with a Bluetooth COM port...

thanks

OH! good find!

I suppose I just need to make a script that sends the word "CLIENT" and waits for the word "CLIENT" (like the example script)

I'll try that when I get home... Should be easy :)

Thanks

CLIENT might get echo'd back as you send it, I don't know. It should respond with CLIENTSERVER, but waiting for CLIENT might be enough.
