What are you planning to do with your new X1000?
« on: December 24, 2011, 04:09:19 PM »
A couple of decades ago, when new Amiga machines were released, users purchased them for a reason -- whether it was gaming, audio production, animation, or desktop video (etc.)

Those of you who are paying the big bucks for an X1000..... do you have any specific plans for the machine, or are you buying it simply because it will be cool to own one?

Well personally I plan to firstly get back into being a Amiga user, I spent a little time in Aros, and I have a nice emulation set up in Amiga Forever but I not really had the time or the incentive to really devel deeper into Amiga for awhile, but I think that will change with the X1000.

I hope to try and learn 3d, either in a classic amiga program or blender, it something I always wanted to get better to grips with. Maybe do a bit of programming nothing big but hope to get Hollywood and maybe do some little projects I have in mind. A little bit of graphics design etc

Then the basic general computing stuff like, lesion to the radio, surf the net, check email, go on IRC, play some games, watch the odd video etc. just doing stuff like this but instead of having to do it on a windows machine / environment I will be able to do it all in an Amiga environment.

Back in the day, Amiga had all sorts of software available for it, especially in the multi-media department.

The only people that I believe will get much use out of an X1000 at the moment, like us MorphOS users, will be coders, people who like games released in 2000 on back to the 80's.
People who want to browse the web without worrying about their system being infected.

IRC users.

Movie watchers.

People who like there old Amiga apps for word processing, gfx, mod trackers, and the like...

Beyond that, there really are no serious applications for ANY next Gen Amiga at present...

Which really makes me wonder why anyone would spend SO much on an X1000, but I guess if you got money to blow, then go for it.
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs
