Megabit 128 Function ROM re-released
« on: December 19, 2011, 08:18:11 PM »
Nearly 3 years ago Dan "Megabit" Newbury released the Megabit 128 Function ROM, a chip that plugged into the empty motherboard socket of the Commodore 128 and made a slew of C128 and C64 applications immediately available with the press of the F1 key.

Now the Megabit 128 Function ROM has returned just in time for the holidays!  To see the complete list of applications, specifications of the Function ROM, or even contact Dan for more info or for placing your own apps in the ROM, see the discussion thread at

     http://www.commodore128.org/index.php?topic=2645.0

The current pricing for the Function ROM is $22.50. Shipping costs are:

USA = $2.50
Canada = $5.00
Europe = $5.00
Australia = $5.00

PayPal is newbury(at)planetkc.com

          Merry Christmas!

Yes, I have two of them.  It makes everything more convenient with its one-key accessibility.

Robert,   How does it compare to the KeyDos?  Could you maybe give us a little comparison so that KeyDos owners/users would know if they wanted to change?

Looks pretty darned neat.  I would prefer having Zed in the ROM, though, and I don't like the idea of it using F1 when I use my JiffyDOS hot-keys (both mentioned in the forum, btw.)  Have to decide if I'd rather have a slew of utilities like this or GEOS in my ROM socket...

Long time ago when I wrote my BBS program I had considered using the ROM socket to make sure the system always booted up after a power failure.  Much faster and reliable than the autostart process.  Neat to see the socket getting used after all these years.

I've been using one of these in my 128DCR for years. they work well. I had dan remap the key to HELP to avoid jiffydos conflicts.

How does it compare to the KeyDos?

KeyDOS v2 is one of the options in the menu that comes up.
